Pietermaritzburg (/ˌpiːtərˈmærɪtsbɜːrɡ/; Zulu: umGungundlovu) is the capital and second-largest city in the province of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. It was founded in 1838 and is currently governed by the Msunduzi Local Municipality. Its Zulu name umGungundlovu is the name used for the district municipality. Pietermaritzburg is popularly called Maritzburg in English and Zulu alike, and often informally abbreviated to PMB. It is a regionally important industrial hub, producing aluminium, timber and dairy products, as well as the main economic hub of Umgungundlovu District Municipality. The public sector is a major employer in the city due to the local, district and provincial governments being located here. It is home to many schools and tertiary education institutions, including a campus of the University of KwaZulu-Natal. It had a population of 228,549 in 1991; the current population is estimated at over 600,000 residents (including neighbouring townships) and has one of the largest populations of Indian South Africans in South Africa.

My husband and I recently had dinner at RJs. The service was fantastic! Very friendly staff. Tuesday is ladies night so a free juice and specials on some meals, very affordable! The ribs however were very fatty and the chicken wings very bland.. but the service made up for it!

We attended a wedding function at this venue in Pietermaritzburg. Underground parking was convenient. Upstairs sitting was tight - long, narrow tables made it difficult to lay down platters. After the salad and garlic bread starters we were offered butternut and spinach. Both were good. This was followed by chicken fillet, crumbed fish (didn't look too good) and then with a rice and chips platter to accompany the prawn serving. Lastly we were offered Ice cream and/or tea. Service was good.

This outlet located adjacent to and overlookinf the casino floor was a modern take on traditional JD decor but bright and relaxing. Food followed the JD standard menu with a separate sushi bar. Our dishes were served promptly, were hot, to order, attractively plated and tasty. The only thing distinguishing one John Dorys branch from any other is the quality of the cooking. Liberty Mall is faultless, friendly, efficient, and never disappointing. Had dinner here with friends day before a cycling race , we ordered pasta and it was divine, loved it.The atmosphere in the restuarant was awesome, great ambiance . It was a cold evening and the heaters made us forget the miserable weather outside :-)Our waiter was also awesome

When a trip to one of our favourite restaurantes turned into a disaster due to them having problems with their gas equipment, Jays was a pleasant alternative. When we arrived we were seated right away and given menu's. Being a Wednessday, their ribs were on special, so both my wife and I decided on having the ribs. It was offered with a choice of chips or vegetables, and since we are on a low carb diet, we both chose the vegetables to be served with our ribs. Our son chose a combo, with calamari and ribs, served with french fries. As my wife and I were quite hungry, not having eaten much after breakfast that day, we ordered a garlic bread for as starter, and it was served within a few minutes from odering it. Soon afterwards, our main courses came and it was indeed very nice. Generous portions of creamed spinach, carrots and butternut accompanied our ribs, which were done to perfection, almost falling off the bone. All in all a very pleasant experience at a reasonable price.
