Donut King

This such a great little donut shop. I only come through here about once a year but the Donut King is alway on my radar. I always get a raised glazed donut - light, perfect texture, and perfect glaze. So yummy. This time my husband tried an apple fritter, in addition to his usual plain old fashioned donut, and he said it was better than his favorite where we live. You can eat there or take your treats home.

Nice people, great food. Authentic Mexican style tacos with quality meat. Every time I travel on highway 101 I plan on stopping at this place in King City to eat. And look forward to it! There is also a great little Mexican bakery next door for desserts.

About half-way between Santa Bárbara and San Francisco sits this little Panaderia/Taco Shop. We were fortunate to land there on a weekend. This apparently is the only time they make the Al Pastor on an outside rotisserie grill. We smelled it roasting as soon as we got out of the car. This alone is worth the stop, but it's also a Panaderia and they have an amazing assortment of Pan Dulces (and wonderful Churros). Another attraction is their Chile Verde-both the traditional pork AND made wth chicken also.
If you find yourself near King City, take the Broadway exit and skip the Denny's; Don Miguel's is down the street.

Intrigued by good reviews, we sought out this small diner outside King City...and really enjoyed the experience. Our perky, friendly server 'Breana' made us feel welcome and helped our choices. My 'chicken fry steak dinner' was delicious (and large)...just like my grandmother made on our ranch ;-) . We liked the cheery banter among regulars (mostly long-haul truckers), and highly recommend 'Wildhorse' for travelers on US 101.

Guadalajara Restaurant

We have been using this establishment during our motorcycle day trips, for going on 15+ years now. It is sometimes the only reason we plan to go out.
Now, I cannot speak for the menu in its entirety but there is something that I can endorse with complete confidence.

We go for one thing and one thing only - Camarones a la Diabla.

This is a dish that is served so many different ways in so many different places but make no mistake: We believe that it is the best version we have tasted to date anywhere. The balance between flavor and heat has consistently been to perfection. Add that I believe that they own the tortilla factory next store and it really doesn't get much fresher than this.
So there, you have our little secret now. It's up to you how you choose to use this information but as for me....we're setting up day ride tomorrow and our plan (as always) will include our favorite lunch stop. I cannot wait, hope to see you there.

I wish this place were in my home town. The place looks a bit sketchy from the outside but don't be fooled. The service is amazing and the food is spectacular. I got the California omelette with home fries. Often restaurants mess up potatoes like this but here they are exceptional. The biscuit on the side is great! Coffee and tea service is quick and regular without asking! I went here several time while on duty at Fort Hunter Liggett. Enjoy!

Vietnam Restaurant

Reviewed By Larry A - Jackson, California, United States

I've been traveling to King City for several years now and mostly eat at one great Mexican restaurant but when I'm there, it's usually with a large gathering of friends. With this group, there's too many and it's getting too loud so when I saw Vietnam Restaurant I figured it was worth checking out. My group there is 3-4 friends and it's much quieter. However, that's not the main reason for dining there, it's the fresh food! Mostly, we have one of the noodle dishes but equally as good is their lemon grass chicken! The spring rolls are also very tasty. With drink, one can eat well here for less than $10. A great bargain for lunch or dinner!

El Taco Bravo Restaurant

Reviewed By Trankj - Normandy, Tennessee

Taco Bravo provides a broad spectrum of menu choices at market prices. Location was easily accessible, large windows on the street provided good visibility, and the service was speedy and responsive. The food was typical Spanish with a broad selection, cooked well, and served hot. A good buy for Spanish food!
