Reviews on Seafood food in Kollam, Kerala, India. Kollam (IPA: [koɭɭəm]) or Quilon (Coulão), formerly Desinganadu, is an old seaport and city on the Laccadive Sea coast of the Indian state of Kerala. The city is on the banks Ashtamudi Lake. Kollam has had a strong commercial reputation since the days of the Phoenicians and Romans. Fed by the Chinese trade, it was mentioned by Ibn Battuta in the 14th century as one of the five Indian ports he had seen during the course of his twenty-four year travels. Desinganadu's rajas exchanged embassies with Chinese rulers while there was a flourishing Chinese settlement at Kollam. In the 9th Century, on his way to Canton, China, Persian merchant Sulaiman al-Tajir found Kollam to be the only port in India visited by huge Chinese junks. Marco Polo, the Venetian traveller, who was in Chinese service under Kublai Khan in 1275, visited Kollam and other towns on the west coast, in his capacity as a Chinese mandarin.

Hot spot restaurant is a small restaurant located in Kollam at anadavalleswaram jus after the collectorate and opposite to the temple. This restaurant is famous for the sea food or provide. It's a small one to look, some chairs are arranged inside, but the food they serve is excellent especially the prawns roast and squid roast. We went to Hotel Mahalekshmi, at Kollam on our family vacation after recommendation from an acquaintance. To tell you the fact, we all are a much happier family after having eaten there. The place is very welcoming with a very humble and quick service, suggestions pouring in by the owner on what to try. Each dish was very distinct in taste and awesome, which left us asking for more.From dal to veg curries to the most awesome varieties of the fish, the fresh catch from the noon..... followed by most awesome payasam, everything was lip smacking delicious! The best part is the love and joy we sense through their food, it just touches your heart and leaves you overwhelmed with care! In our whole trip through out Kerala we did not get such good food anywhere else! This place is epitome of Indian hospitality! For authentic Kerala food - Hotel Mahalekshmi it is! Our heartfelt thanks!

My husband and I visited this restaurant on a mere whim. We were doing a Kollam Kottayam road trip and we were famished. The hotel looked good from the outside and there was plenty of space for parking the car, hence we went in. The restaurant is quite nicely done up and the waitresses wear saris of a vibrantly rich color, which went very well with the surroundings. We both ordered a fish thaali, being hard core lovers of kerala fish preparations. The food was ample and excellent. The rice was well cooked, the vegetable curries and stir fried preparations extremely well done and the fish curry was mouth watering. The sweet dish was average. And it was all extremely affordable.

One of the best hotels we visited in Kollam. The ambiance is neat, well maintained and beautiful. There is huge space for parking. The foods are very tasty. Recommended. Good Family Restaurant.

Best place in Kollam if you want seafood, dont expect ambiance, this is a mess kind of place. Meals is 40 rs, you can get fish fry, crab, prawn and fish head curry. Meals will be either kerala rice or kappa.They'll invite you into the kitchen to pick your fish, they'll fry your choice of fish and serve it. Go in group to enjoy the fish, minimum 4 required.

Keraleeyam is the in-house restaurant of The Raviz Resort & Spa, Kollam and dining here was an experience. Went to the restaurant for dinner after completing a project with the promoters and the Raviz Resorts & Spa itself is a feast to the eyes. The restaurant is well designed with good decor and furniture and has the provision to sit outdoor too. The view of the tranquil Asthamudi Lake from the restaurant is breathtaking and we really enjoyed our dinner taking time. The food was exceptional, Karimeen special and fish curry are to be mentioned specially. Variety of sea foods, Non Veg & North Indian Style Veg dishes (Though named Keraleeyam - they serve Chinese, Continental, Mediterranean, European delicacies too), the food is prepared and served by experienced professionals. The warm hospitality extended by the staff are to be mentioned specially. Be it with family or on special occasions, Keraleeyam will give a great dining experience.
