Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon. Very dirty. No soap in bathroom so I know employees weren't washing their hands. To els empty too and hot water broken. Tables were so nasty I cleaned them myself with napkins and cold water. 25 min to get food too just to boot. And several people from drive thru returned food due to it being old.
Hard to understand menu and unfriendly server for us 2 times, average Mexican food u can find anywhere. Ordered a beer once and never got it. They have a nice bar area that I have never sat in they hardly ever seat people in there guess I need to make them sit us in there.

I've been going here off and on since they opened here 7-8 years ago. They have been consistent. Good food, good price, friendly staff. Menu is good and the staff will tailor make what you want. It's not as cheap as some other Mexican joints, but it is worth the little extra.

There are some good Mexican food places around the area. To me, none of them come up to the food at El Colonial. The food here is excellent, the flavors are fantastic, and the staff is friendly and accommodating. The flavors are distinctly Mexican -- although likely an Americanized version as I assume most Mexican food in the USA is -- but not overwhelming. Instead, they are pleasing to the palate. Although they could have a bad day, I have personally never gotten food here that I did not like. The portions are generous, and I have never left hungry. Actually, I usually leave feeling stuffed. Try the desserts for something special. The fried ice cream is good, and the apple tart is excellent. The other desserts are good, as well. Each meal comes with their own freshly made chips and salsa -- the chips are light and crispy and the salsa is fresh and flavorful. The place is clean, and the tables are cleaned after each customer or group leaves. We really appreciate the review Bernie! Awesome comments.
After watching a movie at Cinemark, I decided to give this place a try and order something to go. I was greeted professionally when I entered. Food items in their menu are quite limited and pork is not served there. I finally picked a lower price dish: mole ranchero ($8.95). The person who took my order was not friendly. After placing my order, I went to the cashier, who was a Caucasian young man, and paid the bill. Guess what?! The damage was $10.92!! Usually I would not dispute the charge if similar situations happen to me (BTW, I am quite good with numbers), but this price difference was somewhat large. When the cashier passed, I stopped him and asked why I got charged differently. He was very nice, double checked my bill, made me aware of an additional charge of $0.35 for take-out and refund the money. Oddly he told me that the person who took my order and wrote my bill was the owner. He was not sure why the owner would price my dish wrongly. I guess the owner just did not have a good luck for doing it this time!?Regarding the taste of food, it was not impressive. I would rather go somewhere else to have Mexican food if possible, for example Suplex Taco.
