These people know their Taco Bell. When I go, I feel so overwhelmed by the choices that I usually only order standard tacos and burritos. When I am standing at the counter trying to rapidly peruse the extensive Mexicanized fast food, I am waited on patiently by the staff, as well as during the drive thru. They also are very accommodating with special requests for my "Hold this and Add that." I appreciate their witty humor on their cups and many salsas.
We found El Paraiso last fall and have been several times. The food is excellent. We have tried several things and everything is great. It's casual dining and you can bring your family. The waitresses take great care to make sure you have everything you need, but don't hover. The owner is usually around and wants to make sure everything is to your satisfaction. A great addition to the restaurants of Shelbyville, Kentucky.

Good Tex Mex food. Get on the email list for coupons about every week for a bogo or a free caso usually. Ribs, steaks, chicken and pork chops are good if you don't like Mexican. If you are over 60 you can order off the lunch menu any time and eat as cheap as $5.99, which is what I do a lot. Burrito, rice and beans, $5.99. The double pork chop meal is enough that my wife and I often share it or have a chop to take home.
This colorful little Mexican restaurant opened last week, and has some of the best handmade tortilla chips around. Their masa (for the huarache was also excellent. Not everything on the menu was available, but the restaurant had been open less than a week. The tortillas for the tacos were excellent and homemade as well. The pork on the taco was a little dry, and the restaurant is a work in progress, but the tortilla chips made it all worthwhile. I give Huichol five-stars for potential (and for the weekend when more dishes are available), four stars right now
Great consistency in the food, good pricing and excellent service are the hallmarks of this entire chain. The one in Shelbyville does a great job. Clean and bright, plenty of TV's with sports action. Wonderful portions and expansive menu. I love this place.
Okay, I was a little hesitant to sample from a taco trailer parked behind a pawn shop in downtown Shelbyville. I'm glad that didn't stop me. The food here is homestyle and savory. Shelbyville has a number of Latino restaurants, with several offering beyond the standard Tex-Mex fare. This one has food that you won't find at the others.I've tried the tripe (tripitas) taco ($3), but that and the tongue taco ($3) just aren't my speed. The birria gorditas ($4.50) are wonderful, a masa sandwich with meaty depth and flavor. Burritos ($5.50) are stuffed with Mexican rice along with the meats. The corn husk-wrapped tamales ($2.50, pork or chicken) are among the best I've eaten. I would also recommend the Corn in a Cup Squites ($3). It's basically corn in a large styrofoam cup layered with Mexican cheese, Mayo and spices. It's too much for just one person. Food is generously spiced with lots of cilantro, made on order, You also receive diced cucumbers and tomatoes with your food. Be sure to get the sauces - this is the only place I've ever seen jalapeno creamy sauce. It's homemade and wonderful. This is not a fancy place. Your food is wrapped in foil then put in styrofoam containers. You can take it with you or sit at the outside table with the folding chairs. This is a seasonal eatery open from April through December, only on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. They open at 5 p.m. (no lunch) It's located behind Jerry's Jewelry and Pawn Shop on the right-hand side of this one-way street. If you enjoy good, homestyle Mexican food, this is worth a visit. You won't forgive yourself if you don't get a steak taco!

$28 for lunch and one meal was a lunch special. First order was completely wrong. Slow service. Burrito and taco meat tasted like cheap runny canned meat.

After a ten hour drive and a time zone change we were just hungry and ready for some reasonably priced Mexican food. Marimba hit the spot. Inexpensive but good margaritas set the tone as we split a Mexican Sampler (taco, relleno, tamale, enchilada and chalupa (what the heck is that) and rice and beans and a separate carnitas taco. We ate almost all of it and after tip, still spent less than $35.

6 of us staying a few nights in Shelbyville, KY. An unassuming restaurant in downtown Shelbyville. Very wide selection of a wide variety of unique Mexican food selections. I had the Pollo Con Chorizo, a surprisingly unique and spicy combination of chicken and chorizo. The folks with me ordered different items from the menu and all were unique, tasty, and very well prepared. If you want Mexican food with spice and a bit of variety, this place is highly recommended. A surprising great find in an out-of-the-way location between Louisville and Frankfort.
