This is a small family owned restaurant which has operated in the Old Harbour of Hania since 2004.We have recently moved to our new premises on the water front on Nea Hora Beach with ample Seating along the beautiful harbour there. As you approach the restaurant you can't help but notice our charming decor featuring old doors as the name "PORTES" means doors. The Irish owner/chef offers her customers a blend of trend and tradition with her unique recipes catering for all tastes including local, greek, mediterranean, seafood, vegetarian and vegan options. All ingredients are fresh, seasonal, local and bought daily.Recipes are designed depending on the season and availability therefore be sure to checkout the blackboard displaying new dishes and daily specials. Here at"Portes" we open our doors each day to welcome our customers.
One of the very best meals we had during our one week trip to Crete. Really really delicious food, in a really attractive setting. Lots of locals eating here, which was a good sign, and no smoking in the restaurant which was a huge bonus. The service was impeccable and unhurried.
Prices were really very reasonable, and I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough.

Wellcome to Strata Restaurant - Tavern At a small picturesque and verdurous alley, located in the Old city of Chania, you will find the Tavern Strata. It is a family tavern with Greek and Cretan specialities which are made by local, pure-fresh products. All of our dishes are prepared for our friends and costumers with longing and caring, based on the grandmas' recipies. Stuffed Vine Leaves, lamb Kleftiko and our special Beef with goat cheese. You can also find within our menu a variety of Cretan meze like kalitsounia, staka, snails, boureki and many others. A visit to our place and we assure you that you will become frequenters.
Had lunch and dinner here on two separate days. The salads here are humungous and could feed an army so check before you order other courses. Had the typical Greek salad and Aubergine salad for lunch.
The Lamb Kleftiko, though small compared to other restaurants was delicious. The bread was fresh and a complimentary desert and Raki was served. Service also efficient and very helpful and friendly.

Our aim is to provide simple, tasty food at affordable prices in a relaxed atmosphere. Our restaurant opens mid April till end of October.
Long wait to start with. We were warned thet 'all menus are at tje other tables'. Friendly service otherwise. We had their mixed grill. Ample portions but some cuts had lots of bone slivers and some were overcooked to charcoal. A bit mote attention to this signature dush, please.
Very good fruit salad as a dessert.
Prices were just above the average for the area which cuts to value, too.

Highly recommend this lovely local restaurant: very much a friendly family restaurant, delicious avocado tzatziki, souvlaki and fish, very quick and good service and a really happy popular atmosphere. We came here for lunches and dinner and recommend both.

We visited here thinking it was going to be a Greek style Italian but it was far from it. Amazing Italian calzone fantastic ravioli and some lovely beers. The decor and atmosphere was spot on. Well done to everyone there, we will be visiting again before the end of our trip.

We went there because of the good reviews. The start was very good: very friendly welcoming. We ordered cretan sausages and filled zucchini flowers. The zucchini flowers were excellent, the saussages were good too, although they were partly burned. As main dishes we ordered sea food, which were very bad and partly burned too. Besides, the vegetables were ice cold, which were served aside the sea food. Only the fried potatoes were ok.
When the waitress asked, if we want to take the food home which was left and we answered no, the mood of her went to the other side. Since that point she and the other waiter were not so courteous anymore, she even was a little pertly...
Maybe we ordered the wrong food (it was marked as frosted), however they shouldn't put it on the menu if they even know its not good, which I suspect was the case because they didn't ask us how the food was.
Maybe the chef had a bad day, but we cannot recommend the taverna.
