Great view, comfortable stay

Reviewed By Simone R

Great location next to the train station, with easy access to a convenience store, supermarket, and numerous food options. The room was not large, and with all the furniture in it was a bit hard to move around once you added your suitcases, but it was very clean and comfortable. The rooftop onsen was great with it's gorgeous view. Breakfast was extensive with heaps of options, and eating looking out at the mountains was just wonderful. However it wasn't cheap, and having just had free breakfast at our last (much cheaper) hotel with also a decent amount of options made it feel like we didn't really get our money's worth. Service was generally good except for one disappointing incident where the staff member at reception acted entirely annoyed that we asked him to ship our luggage to another hotel. The whole conversation was entirely in Japanese and I filled the forms our myself, so I'm not sure why this was such an issue. Put a bit of a dampener on an overall good stay.

Courteous and Comfortable

This is the Daiwa Royal Hotel. 1 block n. of the higashi (east) exit of KashiharaJinguMae station, it's large and stylish in a dated, but superbly maintained, way. All the usual business hotel amenities, plus Japanese style rooms and 2 large onsen (not just oforu) baths. Very generous wide choice breakfast. Good base for a trip to Yoshino on the Kintetsu railway, or the nearby historic Imai-chi and Yagi-chi districts. Very helpful tourist office between hotel and station. Excellent restaurant 'Waraku Shin'; turn left out of hotel to main road, then 200m past Coco's. On right, 2nd floor up stairway.

Good things come in small packages

I have stayed in this hotel three times since 2007 when I come on a biannual study tour to Kashihara. Twice I have stayed by myself as a single female traveller and this last time in a larger group. The hotel has undergone a renovation since the last time I stayed and it is looking much sharper. The rooms, although small, are well appointed and have everything you need. The laundry on the third floor needs some Japanese to understand the machine, but in the end I worked it out. My washing was well and truly washed and dried by the end. There is an excellent Ramen cafe attached near the front foyer and more fancy restaurant underneath. I enjoyed a couple of very quick and tasy Gyoza and Donburi in the ramen restaurant. The hotel is just a short safe walk to the Yamato Yagi station, and there is actually a closer station at the back of the hotel. There is a connecting bus (#40) to the huge Aeon Mall and plenty of shops to get food near the station. There is also a link into the local Kintetsu department store which has a really interesting food hall on the ground level. I could have eaten here every night. The Mister Donut sells the best coffee near the station and from the hotel you can walk down to the amazing Kashihara Shrine if you dont mind a bit of a walk. Also, there is an historic district right behind the hotel that is worth a look. All in all, I would stay here over the Kashihara Royal Hotel. The Royal is very nice and upmarket in comparison, with its own spa area, but the City has a special something that I like.

Large room with couch!

Reviewed By Jos V

We spend one night here, on our way to Koyasan. The hotel is old but everything is clean, there is airco and we even had a couch in our room. Biggest room so far in Japan. The staff is very friendly and the breakfast is in buffet form, cheap for only 600yen pp. The hotel is 2min walk from the station and 5min walk from the beautiful Kashihara Temple. Go and see it if you can. Only point of improvement: the carpet in the room is old and looks quite dirty, could do with a cleanup or change.
