Don't be put off by the rather dour communist-era exterior. Providing you are not looking for four-star luxury this can be recommended. It is very popular with tradesmen (electricians etc.) working away from home. They are looking for something comfortable that will not break the bank, and their repeat custom is a good recommendation. We have also stayed there four times (twice in its previous incarnation as Hotel Korman). Since the change of ownership there is a gradual refurbishment and smartening up going on which is welcome. The rooms are basic, but the beds are very comfortable and the rooms clean. Showers are a bit cramped. The staff are friendly and helpful, but you cannot expect everyone to speak perfect English. The receptionists vary between basic English (but ready to use Google Translate to help out) to very fluent - just remember this is a country hotel, not an international hotel in Gdansk. We always opt to have the breakfast which is a cold buffet. Nothing fancy, but for the modest price you get a meal which will set you up for the day. There is a gym in the basement - a bit cramped, but good enough to work off those breakfast calories. Parking can be a bit tight when the hotel is full, but we have never found it a real problem. There are only two criticisms I would make - and both of these are liveable with: a) The wifi is very good in the small lounge area, but can be very patchy in the rooms. b) Like a lot of Polish country hotels the fire-safety precautions would not meet western European standards. As far as I can see it has no (or few?) smoke-detectors and there does not seem to be an alarm system. However, this is a common problem in Poland once you get away from the big cities and the international hotel chains. I would hope that the new management eventually sort this out as part of the refurbishment. Being wise to this issue I travel with my own smoke alarm - that way I sleep a bit more comfortably at night. Anyway those are the only reservations - for comfortable budget accommodation in Kartuzy I would certainly recommend this hotel.

Our hotel provides you with exceptional atmosphere and the restaurant gives you unforgettable taste of our cusine” The hotel “ Pod Orlem” it is a stylish, modern and of high standard building located close to a local park in the center of Kartuzy, the town called the capital of Kashuby. There is a convenient connection between Kartuzy and Tri-City. The hotel is located 35 kms from Gdansk airport, approximately 30 minutes drive by car. There are also bus and train stations in Kartuzy with links to Gdansk and Gdynia. 3 min from the hotel is a metropolitan railway line, which has a direct connection to the Lech Walesa Airport!
Fantastic hotel in the beautiful small town of Kartuzy. Modern and full equipped rooms and common areas. Very good and well organized breakfast. cool outside terrace where to relax and nice bowling bar where to have a bit of fun. We came to attend a wedding and they have a big and nice meeting room. Staff in simply wonderful, especially Martyna , the lady that attend us in the breakfast area, a truly professional. No complaints at all.

Zamówienie składało się z „ kaszubski plic„ i łososia. Pierwsze danie miało składać się z placka ziemniaczanego plus gulasz. Placek był smaczny jednakże gulasz to zwykły sos pieczeniowy plus parę kawałków mięsa. Za to duży minus. Łosoś zrobiony dobrze, miękki i soczysty w środku.

{English text at the bottom} Byliśmy tu w ostatnim tygodniu lipcu wraz z naszym pięcioletni syn i sąsiedzi którzy też mają pięcioletni córka. Oh, i też był nasz pies :) Jak jechać tam: > Jeżeli masz samochód to łatwe - od Warszawy A2 do Gdańska a potem do Kartuzy i do Chmielno > Jeśli nie masz samochódu jak my - jechaliśmy pociągiem od Warszawy do Gdańska: pendolino. Wygodny i bez problemo do Gdańska Wrzesz. Jechaliśmy autobusem miejsce do Gdańsk Lotnisko a potem nasz przyjaciel odebrał nas samochodem do U Chłopa. Kiedy wróciliśmy to jest autobus od Chmielno do Kartuzy (jeżdzi rzadko) ale przyjaciel jeszcze raż odebrał nas do Kartuzy i był pociąg do Gdańska (jeżeli chcesz jechać do Gdyni to musisz zmieniać na Rębiochowo. Miejsce: Budynek na zewnątrz: Wygląda super - Kaszubski styl i obok jezioro. Super widok. Jeżeli chcesz coś to oni sprobują dać. Siłna i ana ciśnienia punktów. {English}: We were here during Summer - at the end of July. We were pretty lucky as most days were gloriously sunny (except for one rainy afternoon). How to get there: > By car: you drive along the A2 to Gdańsk and then take the road to Kartuzy and then to Chmielno. Rather straight-forward. > By public transport: not so straight-forward. There is no good public transport. We went by train to Gdansk Wrzeszcz and found out that the trains to Kartuzy (nearest big town) go only on weekends. So we took a train to Gdansk airport (closest to Kartuzy) and a friend picked us up. It is about 45 minutes from the airport to U Chłopa. Coming back we took a train from Kartuzy to Rebichowo and changed to another train to get to Gdynia (you can take the train directly to Gdansk if you wish) as we were to meet friends. There is a bus from Chmielno to Kartuzy, but this goes very seldom, so I wouldn't trust it. Without a car, this can be quite difficult to get to, so be aware. The place: A very nice, old-style Kashubian building, quaint and pretty. The inside is wooden and cozy. We booked at the last moment so got a room under the roof (a little stuffy, but we knew this) - you can get better rooms at a better price or if you book earlier. The bathroom had the steam pipes a little dirty, but what do you expect? It's a family-run agroturystyka, not a hotel. Overall it was nice, the beds were comfortable -- medium hard, so if you like soft beds, be aware. There is a television set (we didn't use it at all the entire week, so can't tell you what and how many channels are there) and nice place to keep your clothes. The windows were overlooking the lake, so very nice as well. Food: traditional Kashubian food - tasty, but tending to have a lot of potatoes. at one time we had for lunch potato soup + potato fritters + potato/bacon mix :) but again, can't complain if you remember that this is made by the hostess like she would at home, so traditional food. There weren't a lot of vegetables and the choice was limited, but again, you must remember this is not a hotel. What is there is good. Places to play in the agroturystyka: lots of places for young kids: there is a play ground, there are chickens, goose, pigs, there is the lake with water bikes, paddleboats, kayaks, lots of fish for fishing. My five year old son was very happy and all the other kids were happy as well. The hosts put on something different every day: horse rides, a kiddie animator (to organize games), horse-cart ride, a Kashubian wedding (Well, this was organized by the Gmina, but the host played a big role :)), teaching kids to bake bread (tasty!!), etc. They have horses, beautiful horses that roam free. Around the area there are places to walk around, but we didn't. About the kids: this is a place for people with small kids: lots of activities and lots of pre-teens. There was one teenager who seemed to be happy enough, but there was at least 20 young kids, enjoying themselves. There is noise and there can be little kids running around, so I don't recommend this place for couples who don't want this noise and activity. I recommend the masseuse - she is the daughter of the owners and a physiotherapists -- strong and knows where to hit the pressure points. They are planning an indoor pool, perhaps next year, but if not, there is always the lake :) To sum up: great place for families with small kids. But keep in mind that this is a working farm and don't have expectations for hotel-like conditions: this is a friendly, family-run, cozy atmosphere place where they will give you whatever extra you ask for, but they are not this "cold professionals" - so go with that expectation and you will enjoy it.

Najdroższy i zdecydowanie najsłabszy nocleg podczas całej majówki. Takie miejsca radzę omijać szerokim łukiem.
