Went here after a friend recommend it.Right next to Miyanoshita station. The food was delicious! Get the wedges which are cooked in garlic butter and sardines.... amazing! Or the beef in a red wine and sake jus!The cook is an avid wine fan and as such this place has an surprising good wine list!I'll be back next time I visit Hakone!

The Kikka-so was built in 1895 as a Miyanoshita villa for the Imperial Family, using traditional Japanese architecture and garden design. In these relaxing surroundings, diners can enjoy the finest kaiseki cuisine made using seasonal ingredients.
I had Saturday breakfast and dinner at the Kikka-so. It turns out the building was originally an imperial retreat and was sold to the Fujiya just after the war. It is quite a beautiful building with at least one delightful garden. For breakfast, there is a relatively large room set with probably 16 tables. For the 9AM seating, about half were in use. I wasn't sure what I was eating in some cases, but it was all quite tasty. The service was quite good. For the evening meal, they have 3 options. The most expensive option required 3 days notice. Since I only made my reservation a day in advanced (and since I wasn't sure when I'd be in Hakone again), I went for the middle option. When I arrived, I was met by a delightful young woman who was my server for the evening. She took me to one of the (private) dining rooms. I didn't think to count the number of tatamis for size. The room had a small anteroom where she would stage and sometimes prepare things. There was a sliding door between the anteroom and the dining room. The dining room comfortably fit the table where I ate, had an area behind me for staging dishes and also had a small alcove. It also had a sliding door with a view to the outside of the building. The food was all quite good. Being my first trip to Japan, I'm certainly not qualified to describe how authentic it is or how well prepared or anything else. I just know that it tasted good. My server was also quite pleasant. She was quite willing to explain to me what each of the items were and to generally chat and answer my questions. All in all, this turned out to be one of the high points of my trip to Japan.
I have heard it said that I should try the soba while in Hakone. You say soba, I say fish! If soba is what you want, there are plenty of choices but let me point you to a place that has awesome grilled fish; Kinosuke! If you are not totally convinced by this review, drop by the restaurant location and watch the fish being grilled in the window. That mouth watering experience should be enough to draw you in.

We felt felt like having a steak and found this restaurant on trip advisor I feel like the reviews we read were a bit exaggerated. The food was indeed good - it's an hibachi restaurant and the steak was probably the softest I've eaten in a long time. The restaurant design is a bit run-down and the atmosphere of the restaurant was not more than ok - and the prices were very high (a 4oz-120g fillet or 5oz-150g sirloin cost us over $100 per person)Overall I would say - if you really want to have a good soft steak - go with it . If you're looking for nice place for dinner - you can find something cheaper
BBQ food and drinks - pretty tasty and the service was good, so certainly no complaints (more Korean BBQ than Japanese, but I like both). This place was up some stairs on a back street, but still had space and no queue. To its credit, it provides somewhere for people to eat when the rest of the town shuts down - and for that reason it goes from very good to excellent.

We came to HakonÄ after our New Years celebrations in Tokyo just to have a couple days of rest before heading to Kyoto. We loved HakonÄ and as always, we do our research on restaurants but always manage to stumble across a little gem, and this was definitely that! This restaurant is nothing to look at, off the beaten track and quite hard to find, but it's definitely worth looking for.We were just in the mood for a good ramen, and this ramen was what a traditional ramen is all about, massive bowls filled with everything plus little gyozas & dumplings on the side. There was more than we expected but we left nothing! Highly recommend this place, more of a locals type of restaurant than a tourist trap but the staff were more than helpful

This sushi shop is a small family owned shop in the Miyanoshita area of Hakone. This restaurant features a rice bowl of horse mackerel, and other sushi was also delicious. In particular, we recommend rolled sushi of grained tuna. The price was affordable and service was OK.

We visited Goza for the day and was looking for lunch. This place rated very high on TripAdvisor so we thought we should give it a try. When we got there, the line was a mile long. I thought that was a very good indicator that I was a good place for lunch. The line was composed wholly of local Japanese which made it even better. It ended up being a 45min wait. Monday 11:30am. Be aware, when lining up, they call the number only in Japanese. I do karate and know my Japanese number up to 10 - I couldn't understand them calling the number over 10. I got sick of guessing and tucked the number on my hat and stood just outside the door. When It was my number, the waiter just tapped me on the shoulders to indicate I was our turn. They have an English menu so ask for the English menu if you can't read Japanese. Also note, there are two types of seating- chair and table (western style) and traditional Japanese. My legs were aching because I'm not use to crossing my legs in lotus position for lunch. I'm not normally a tofu kind of guy, but their signature tofu meal was the best tofu I have ever tasted. Their pork cutlet was amazing as well. Crunchy on the outside and really really juicy on the inside. Definitely worth the wait and I would high recommend it anyone passing the area. Lunch for 2 was about $5500 yen.

One of the dish we wanted to try during our japanese trip and we left fully satisfied. These gyoza are light and crispy and stuffed with very fresh ingredients, we ordered 4 types of them (stamina with gingko and garlic, octopus, scallops, Hakone) all very good while the first is by far the more tasty, great for garlic lovers. Hakone is the cheapest option, the others cost 972 yen. Top them up with an extra and you get a menu set with a miso soup, rice and home made pickles. Definitely a good choice and all the local workers having their (fast) lunch break here would not say the contrary I bet. Hosting a flower shop makes this recently furnished location even more friendly though modern. Well done to the owners for having resumed their business so efficiently.

We are the NEW STYLE KOBE BEEF TEPPANYAKI STEAK Restaurant with super chef NOBU MATSUHISA!
We went for the lunch set, and it was an outrageously wonderful value! We tried their Gora Brewery wheat beer, too. Yum! I had booked reservations in advance and arrived when it opened. There were other guests there as well but w/o reservations and the place was maybe only 1/3 full. Everything was great and I highly recommend it!
