The room was clean and spacious. Dinner and Breakfast set were very delicious. I could feel the real traditional Japanese styled food. Outside private hot spring bath was nice and relaxable. Especially, Daiki san, the Japanese owner was really nice and helpful. I think staying with this Ryokan can worth every penny you spent. High recommended!!!

Pension Brown

An English spoken Japanese-style chalet (pension) located in Zao Onsen in the mountains of Yamagata. (Carl is British/Japanese and Wakana from Japan.) Only 2.5hrs from Tokyo on the bullet train, or a 40-90 minute bus-ride from Yamagata/Sendai airports, offering one of the oldest onsen sites in Japan (with a history going back 1,900 years) along with activities for all seasons including 4-5 months skiing. There are plenty of hiking trails including the Yamagata Long Trail (70kms) which is in course of completion but partly opened in terms of signage. Please see our website for in-house activities and general FAQs. Depending upon other guest numbers, we are happy to cater to dietary requirements such as Halal, vegetarian, vegan.

Upscale Onsen Hotel

The Koyo is a larger, traditional Japanese Onsen Hotel built 70 years ago. Free valet parking is available upon arrival. Parts of the building were recently renovated; our room was brand new with a nice smell of wood. There is a fridge in the room which can be replenished by various things sold by vending machines or gift shop in the ground floor. There are two public onsen, one in the ground floor, one in the top floor. I recommend to choose a room with private onsen, offering you a nice view on mount Zao. We enjoyed our stay and would choose Koyo again. That said, take notice this place cannot cater special food requests as there is one set menu for dinner (which is served in a large banquet hall). Various places to eat can be reached by car within a few minutes, probably the better choice. As in many japanese hotels, latest breakfast is at 0830h (buffet style) and check-out is at 10h.

Had a great suite, a huge traditional tatami room, a western dining room, an indoor onsen, an outdoor onsen, a couple of washrooms, and a patio backyard over looking the city and mountains across. Michelin-star like meals of countless dishes with top local ingredients. Loved the design, finishings and layout of the property, lots of common areas to raom around (tea room, bar room, library, garden and gallery, etc.).

料理が冷たい又部屋へ行くのに登ったり下りたり継ぎ足し旅館。

Reviewed By 28232823
