An acronym for South Western Townships, Soweto was dubbed as such in 1963. The area began in the late 19th century as a temporary neighborhood for gold mine workers, then later became a black Johannesburg ghetto with forced apartheid settlement. In 1976, Soweto garnered international headlines with its deadly uprising against Afrikaans-only language education. The Mandela Family Museum and the recently restored Credo Mutwa Village (with its Zulu and Sotho homesteads) are two can't-miss sights.

The legendary Lucios Pizzeria is a brand on its own and is a landmark institution in the Northcliff area. Lucios has perfected the art of the homely eatery. The restaurant's appeal lies in its uncomplicated approach; simple and excellent food served in sy
A recent trip up to Johannesburg we went for a friends birthday to Lucioâs. I have been hearing of these pizzaâs for awhile now as some of my friends frequent this institution quite a lot. Service was great. Not just one waiter is assigned to a table. All the waiters work together making sure the patrons have enough beverages and food at any time. The pizza was amazing. The decor of the restaurant boast awesome paintings and art. I highly recommend LucioâsThank you so very much Zelda for your awesome review, rating and recommendation. All these wonderful reviews make me feel so proud of my waitrons, kitchen ladies and managers. They are a wonderful team.

Unusually, Francoâs doesnât charge corkage on the first bottle of wine you bring. Isnât that nice! This cosy restaurant has good food at plain prices, a lovely homely atmosphere, no pretentions and pleasant, ordinary, unfussy South African service. Nothing special, just a hearty enjoyable meal in lovely company at a reasonable price. What more could you want.

Looking for a restaurant/cafe facility which would keep our young grandchildren (5&2) happily occupied whilst also offering reasonable priced good food and drinks our resident Son recommended AJ's but failed to warn us as to its outward appearance.First impressions were of a rather scruffy, run down facility in desperate need of a significant makeover - what were we letting ourselves in for - How WRONG WE WERE . Despite its appearance, the ethos of the whole facility is excellent. The staff, the play area toys, creative painting offering along with the obligatory "jungle gym' proved immensely popular along side the child minders - nothing was too much trouble. Together with our Son we all sat outside under a blue canvas frame covering a wooden table with attached bench seats. As to the food the Pizza's and our chicken salads were much appreciated alongside a good choice of iced drinks and wine. AJ's is based on what was previously the Craighall Bowling Green club - sadly the greens themselves have suffered years of neglect BUT the spirit of the staff and the sound of young children happily enjoying themselves unaware of its facility's external state brings a new energy to its former more gentile past. With further investment in a refurbishment this hidden gem will potentially become very very successful.

Very disappointing meal at exorbitant prices ( value for money) Pasta was penne from the packet and the sauce was heated salty cream and some bacon was thrown on top. I had better meals from a packet. This restaurant is in Melville, we should have known better because the place was almost empty when we arrived and left. I was not in the mood to complain after a 600km drive. I sincerely hope they will pull up their socks.

Visited them , we were seven seated. We ordered three pizzas , 01 burger and 03 steaks from the menus .The three pizzas arrived at the same time , nearly 05 minutes later the steaks and about 05 minutes later the one burger . Everyone was happy with their food . When one goes out for supper the aim is to enjoy all the food at the same time and together. The planning should have been better to ensure all get their food at the same time. I was much disappointed in my pizza , , their was not much crumbed fetta , I ordered extra mushrooms but could hardly find them . With pricing at this establishment being what they are there should be no need to be skimpy.Don't think I will visit them again if the choice depends on me

I telephoned for a order for delivery , no phone skills . I placed my order , they have a pizza called pepperoni , the man of debonairs tells me they don't use pepperoni , they use salami , anyway I told him I know and they mustn't add olives and peppers . I asked for change for R200. A few minutes later , another lady phones to confirm . When my order arrives , the delivery guy tells me, the man who took my order said I'm paying by card . Thank goodness my order was correct and that everybody was happy with the pizza
