I've been traveling into this region of Brazil since May, and have stayed at several hotels between Sao Paulo and Poso Allegre (sp?). At this point, Monte das Oliveiras is my favorite. The hotel is 8Km up a quite twisty paved road from the main highway, the Fernao Dias. The drive is scenic and bumpy in places, best done in daylight the first time or two. Take a moment to stop and look around at a few spots on the way towards the hotel. BEAUTIFUL Scenery. The hotel & resort is very much worth the 8Km drive! The staff is friendly and accomodating, and at least a few people speak excellent English (not really common in the area). They will go find whom ever the linguist may be, too, if there is any tendency toward confusion. The restaurant is quite good. They advertise Baucahaul for miles along the highway leading up from Sao Paulo, I've yet to actually try it. When there are only a few guests in the hotel, the restaurant offers a daily selection from the menu, all items are well prepared and served. When there are more guests, they offer an excellent and well varied buffet; I've seen wood fired oven pizzas (choose your own toppings) and the more traditional Brazillian barbeque too. Service is first class; I order wine by the bottle, they hold my remainder allowing me to enjoy an excellent wine over the course of two or three meals. The whole grounds are extensive. I've walked much of what is on the "main" side of the road, there is much to see on the other side, I'll do that next time I'm here. Accomodations range from simple one-room typical hotel rooms, two room 'chalets' and multiple room family style chalets. You can be quite close to the center of action (my current chalet overlooks the main outdoor pool) or a 1/2km removed and up the mountainside. Monte das Oliveiras is the best property I've found in the region, I'll return for sure.

First time experience. Indeed very nice. Very good food, nice atmosphere, Cousy ambience. Morning walkings and meditations and nights events to entertain the guests. Big rooms but needs to be renovated specially the beds. Other than that, all good.

Owners and family are extremely nice and friendly, good food, excellent breakfast. Christmas dinner & lunch also very good. Not many things to do around, awful road to get to the pousada are the weak points. Excellent place for couples without children, good swimming pool. Not indicated for seniors with knee or joint problems since it´s hilly.

We travelled from Los Angeles( me and my 9 years old son) and we were looking for a quiet and peaceful place to detox from the city and we found it!!! we joined some family members there and had a wonderful week. We got there a week before xmas and it was a blast! if you look for quiet time avoid high season which starts around xmas and it goes all the way until Carnaval. We had an excellent stay at the Pousada! Lana he owner was an excellent host...she's a wonderful person, and made us feel totally conformable! the place is clean, the food is good and we came back with wonderful memories...Lana we are coming back this year! and also theres Nicole!!!! her dog...omg! my son and Nicole became buddies!!!

A Lua ? adorou!

We stayed one night at this inn, we is a few kilometers outside town. They have a surprising large number of rooms distributed around a courtyard. The facilities were quite plain but functional. Everything was spotlessly clean. The shower was one the best we ever experienced in this price range. The bed was comfortable but my pillow was a bit too high. What surprised us was the (included) breakfast. It was generous, varied, and tasty, including curd and preserves prepared on the premises by the owner. For a budget stay in Joanopolis, Pousada San Lorenzo is an excellent deal.

Se você procura sair do agito da cidade esse é o lugar, ambiente rústico, no meio do mato, sem internet nem sinal de telefone. Trilhas e cachoeiras fazem parte do lugar. Também vale a pena conhecer os produtores rurais no entrono da pousada, os queijos são uma delicia.
