Although it was chilly in November, we enjoyed our stay at Sundance Resort Onjuku. The resort staff did have a bit of trouble understanding English, so to clarify, they used a voice-based translator. I believe if you book through RCI, you automatically are assigned a Western room. Since I went not even knowing there were two options, but as I was checking in, the hotel staff said they were out of the Western room, and asked to show me the Japanese room to see if that will be acceptable for me.I believe the Japanese room includes sleeping on the made up mattress on the tatami mats instead of a bed and the restroom is also different (the resort made sure to ask me to check the shower/tub of the Japanese room before I accepted, but I don't know how it differs from the Western room). The resort staff were also initially a bit uncertain about my reservation (it might possible just be the Western Room versus Japanese Room dilemma), but they called RCI and got it figured out.Great view of the beach. Lots of surfers when the tide was higher. There was a small thunderstorm while we were there too.We used the bikes that the resort provided. We biked to Katsuura, but please note that the most direct route there includes biking through tunnels that does not have space for a bike and two lanes. We also noticed that the rooms were a bit old, but everything was clean. Please note that lots of Japanese restaurants tend to have one day a week that they are closed. Since we were here for mostly weekdays, we kept accidentally trying to go to places on the day they are closed. We did have some great sushi (and spiny lobster is something we saw a lot in Onjuku).November seems like a quiet time to visit, but that was fine with us.
