The largest of the Galapagos Islands, Isabela is one of the most volcanically active places in the world. Whether this is thrilling or terrifying is up to you. It doesn’t seem to bother the iguanas and penguins of Las Tintoreras, a nearby island cluster and popular snorkeling site. Walk from Puerto Villamil through mangrove forests and saltwater lagoons to reach the Tortoise Breeding Center. Isabela was once used as an exile for prisoners, who built the devastating Wall of Tears as part of their punishment.

I loved my stay here, the owner is so friendly and helpful and the location can’t be beat. I had a beautiful view of the ocean from my terrace and there are tons of bars and restaurants steps away. Wifi was as good as can be on the island and my room was clean and comfortable. I was impressed with the bedding and bath linens. A/C worked well too. The owner was beyond helpful in booking my ferry and tours as well.

The Drake Inn is uniquely situated at the end of Puerto Villamil in front of the Ocean. The top of the inn has a big veranda with an unobstructed 360 degree view of the bay and the National Park. Each room comes with A/C and a built-in safe for your documents and valuables. The entrance to the Giant Tortoise Breeding Center is a few feet to the right of the front entrance.
While trips to the Galapogas in general tend to be expensive, the Drake Inn provides a more affordable accommodation - whilst giving one of the best locations in town! Having arrived into the island feeling haggled by airlines and various entry ‘fees’ our arrival at the Drake Inn was warmly welcomed. We had a lovely stay, Ivan prepares a great breakfast each morning with varying fresh juices! Rebekka also makes sure any requests are promptly achieved - she has a great knowledge of the island and goes above and beyond to schedule tours and trips. The Inn is placed perfectly in front of the beach making it immensely accessible, just a couple of metres away. From here you are close to the centre of town and the tortoise breeding centre. The owners Ann and Carlos host this family-run business and do a wonderful job. They do their best to make sure you have any information for your stay and they are very hospitable. They host a lovely place with recent renovations - particularly the lovely garden in the back area of the building. The rooms have AC (thank goodness - the heat is like no other) and it’s nice and clean. We would definitely recommend a stay at the Drake Inn, we didn’t have any issues during our time here and we would definitely stay again!

The Cally Hotel is located in the Province of Galapagos, Isabela Island, in the central district, with easy access to the main tourist attractions. We put at your disposal a quality service, we have 16 new rooms, comfortable and spacious, in single, double, triple and quadruple distribution; our rooms have a modern and cozy style, which makes your stay rewarding. Very friendly personnel; very clean and intact room (we were in 2 hotels on the Galapagos that do not meet this criterion), with windows that you can fully close (not the case in every hotel there) and with a safe for personal belongings (not the case in every hotel there). Delicious breakfast with a generous bowl of fresh fruit; yogurt and granola; scrambled eggs and good toast & jam.

Great place to stay when in Isabela. Hotel is new. Rooms are very clean, bright and up-to-date. Air conditioner worked great and there was hot water in the shower. Hotel was right in the middle of town. You dont have a sea view but that might be the only negative about this place. Reasonably priced, free water on the lobby, clothes racks for hanging up wet clothes. Even though the host does not speak English she was very gracious - getting up early to make sure we had a taxi to the pier on our last day. Great restaurant next door - Las Palmeras.

The hotel is located a few meters from the beach and malacon well-appointed rooms have hot water, air conditioning, private bathroom, wi fi tv balcony, TV, a refrigerator water dispenser in Reception
I stayed here with my parents while they came to visit me on the island of Isabela. The hotel is extremely clean and cute, with a very central location. It is located right next to the main street of Puerto Villamil and is surrounded by restaurants and tourist agencies. It is one block away from the beach. There are very nice views from the second floor! It was also great to have AC after long hot days. Janet is an incredible hostess, and works very hard at her job! The hotel is all family owned and run, and customer service is very important to the family. Janet is incredibly helpful in booking tours, giving restaurant recommendations, and assisting with anything you may need at the hotel! The area outside the front office is very nice to sit and relax in the evening and enjoy the city of Villamil. There is also a water cooler, which can be difficult to find on the islands, and is very important for staying hydrated in the equatorial sun! The amenities at this hotel are very nice, and it is a fantastic place to stay on Isabela!

We stayed at Hostal Loja for 4 days and had a comfortable stay. The room and bathroom were basic but were clean and comfortable. Our room (#8) had AC and a small fridge. We noticed that some of the other rooms had TVs and no fridges, so I guess the amenities depend on which room you get. The wifi was terrible - there is one network that covers the reception area but is not strong enough to reach the rooms. Even when standing right next to the router the internet was barely usable. Obviously you don't come to the Galapagos to sit on Facebook, but we would have appreciated being able to do some basic research on TripAdvisor for the local restaurants/tour agencies, etc. The owner is a friendly, older gentleman who has lived on the island for 40 years. He doesn't speak English and our Spanish is terrible, so there were a few gaps in communication. There is also a younger guy who works the front desk and serves the breakfast, who is also really friendly and we had an easier time understanding his Spanish. He was really nice and helped us sort out a few issues with one of our day tours. The breakfast included in the room rate was good, but perhaps not as good as we were expecting based on some of the other reviews. Fresh juice, fresh fruit, eggs, croissants with jam/butter, and coffee/tea. Certainly not the best breakfast we have had in South America, but definitely sufficient to fill you up for a day of exploring the island. We made our reservation through Booking and, in retrospect, we probably paid a lot more than we should have. Isabela is the most expensive of the Galapagos Islands to stay on, so we were expecting to pay a little more, but we felt that the room rate was overpriced for what you get. As one of the previous reviews mentioned, you would probably get a cheaper price if you just showed up and asked for a room rather than making a reservation ahead of time. We traveled to Isabela in October, which is one of the slower months, and a lot of the better looking hotels in Puerto Villamil looked to be very quiet. You could probably get a much better deal at a nicer hotel by finding a room in person during the slower months.
