I stayed for one night while hiking the Dingle Way enr Mt. Brandon. Room had extra windows and felt extraordinarily spacious and airy. Great views of the mountains to the east. Owners were very kind and offered to take me to various trailheads to help reduce the burdens of hiking the next day. They drove me to a pub for dinner as well. Management professional and breakfast was great. I would go out of my way to stay here again.

A Highlight of Our Trip to Ireland

Reviewed By Aslanschild2

Our overnight stay in this castle/country house was one of the very best experiences of our two-week trip to Ireland. Paul and Patrycja Mernagh are gracious and elegant, as is their newly refurbished castle/country house B&B. Both have worked previously in the hotel industry for many years, and it shows. They know how to do hospitality and fine dining. They are not hovering or chatty, but are friendly and make themselves available when needed. The breakfast was gourmet (baked eggs!) and sumptuous, served meticulously. Fit for the king and queen of the Castle, which is exactly how we felt. Our room was spacious and gorgeous, among the loveliest we had on our trip. One of the most unusual experiences we had during our entire stay in Ireland was the permission Paul gave us to enter the 15th-Century castle ruin attached to the 17th-Century country house, and fully explore it on our own. It is well-lit and partially restored (very early but evident efforts). With due caution, we felt perfectly safe climbing the railed stairs all the way to the turrets and gazing out across the idyllic farmlands, something that would never be allowed in the U.S. thanks to lawyers and a highly litigious citizenry. We could hardly believe our good fortune to be able to do this, and we thanked Paul afterward for his—what, courage? Good will towards his guests? Desire to share such a precious heritage? All of the above, I believe. He sadly observed that he may not be able to offer this privilege much longer, even in Ireland. So, come while you can. This place is a rare find; for us it was the treat of a lifetime.

Originally we were a bit disappointed we couldn’t find an apartment to rent in Cork for our dates but what a pleasure it turned out to be to stay here. Everything is extremely well done and comfortable with everything you need and more. Kathleen was so warm, helpful and knowledgeable and she gave us lots of information to help us make the most of our stay. A lovely breakfast with lots of choice and freshly cooked to order. We all wished we could have stayed for longer. Highly recommended.

Classy Hotel, Excellent Staff, Nice Room Fit Out

Reviewed By Steve5839

A very nice hotel indeed in the Georgian part of town, Its quite quirky inside and dressed accordingly. The staff were great from checking in to checking and out and when I was leaving, I was working down stairs in the lobby and needed the WiFi, the guys servicing the cooling units delayed switching off the WiFi until I had finished - thank you and this coupled with the free cup of coffee was most welcome. The rooms quite elegantly fitted out and the shower excellent and even lots of milk for the coffee. WiFi was a reasonable speed 8 Mbs So after all the good things - no lift, and the breakfast items I had were a little overcooked / dry. Would I stay here again most certainly and probably will next time I am in town

Parking

The management at Egans have, despite objections from local residents, sent their guests to park outside peoples homes. It is most unfair to have tourists/guests leave their cars parked outside ones home restricting access. This practice is not welcome in the area.
