Very close to the shrine really close waking distance around 200 meters, hotel has room, flats and a restaurant available for booking groups and really good help with Visa and other type of needs such as transportation and information for tours and real good experience for tourism in Holy Karbala
A rustic, rural lodge run by Iraq's largest environmental NGO, the Eco Camp can comfortably sleep groups of 4-12. Meals can be provided on-site, and a variety of programming, including guided hikes and river trips, can be arranged. Please contact us for more information. All proceeds from the camp go to support Nature Iraq's ongoing conservation and advocacy work.

Located in Erbil, Asenappar features simply furnished accommodations. It offers free Wi-Fi in all areas and a mini-market on site. Massage facilities and meeting rooms are available at an additional cost. All rooms feature carpeted floors. Each suite offers a living area with a flat-screen TV and a minibar. The bathroom is fitted with a shower or a bath. Guests can enjoy a daily breakfast buffet at the main restaurant. Laundry and ironing facilities are available at an added fee. Erbil International Airport is 11 km away from Asenappar. An airport shuttle is provided upon request.
I have stayed in this hotel multiple times in the last seven or eight months. The rooms are clean and comfortable, there are a variety of room and suite configurations, there is a very good buffet breakfast offered every morning, staff speak English and are helpful and pleasant, internet can be good or intermittent, and I love that if you are waiting or meeting in the lobby (which is an attractive, large, well-lit area) you are offered coffee or tea. It is situated in a nice area of Arbil, with various shops and restaurants. But if you wish to be guaranteed a good night's sleep this may not be the hotel for you. There is a partyroom at the top of the hotel, without much if any soundproofing, so the sounds from this room travel down to the rooms. The parties start at 9 or 10pm and continue into the early hours of the morning. A call to reception might get the volume turned down a bit, but there is not much they can do. This has happened three of the times I have stayed here, and the last time I was here it kept my colleague from being able to get any sleep before he caught his flight.

I've stayed at the Karwan Saray a few times now, in a single room and double. The rooms are fine, and always clean. Beds are comfortable. Breakfast is decent, and the restaurant on the 7th floor is lovely actually, and has a nice view of the city.

The Good: -It's in an amazing location near the citedel and bazaar. -It's clean. -It intially seems cheap. -The staff are helpful. The Not So good: -It's a squat toilet I'm afraid which maybe a big no no for many people. -The staff struggle to communicate in English. -The single rooms are on the roof and are quite noisy due to the traffic. -When you consider that breakfast is not included and there aren't any towels or toilet paper it is not really worth the price if you have not brought any and need to purchse them.
