In Des Moines we have become bbq snobs, or so we think with jethros and smokey d's just to name a couple. Famous Dave's is constantly good and for a good price. I would put their ribs up against the big boys in town and not only will they beat them on price they'll come pretty darn close on quality. I know it was true for me if you give them another try I think you'll be happy ya did.

First visit to The Hall tonight. I wasn't sure what to expect even after reading reviews. We walked in to find a large open "hall" with communal tables, conversation pits and a bar with stools. Super large TV screens high up over the bar showed sports, the beer menu, messages about upcoming events at The Hall and alerts when food was ready. I had downloaded their before going which was a good thing as that is the only place to see food menus besides at the counter (on an Ipad). Large beer menu offered a wonderful 10.5% stout that I need to have again someday. Food is supplied by food trucks. Your choices depend upon how many trucks are at the place that night. For us, our only choice was BBQ as that was the only truck that night. The food we had was really good, but I bet it is more fun to be there when there are 3 or more trucks. We really appreciated the volume level the night we went. It was loud enough to provide privacy from other tables but not so loud that you couldn't converse easily. Overall it is a fun and interesting place, tho I'm not a fan of the long tables. As a tall person I found it hard to get in and out of the seating. Staff was charming (especially Sarah) and ready to please.Get off your couch and to to The Hall, you won't be sorry.

After seeing this place on DDD, was expecting to be blown away with the quality of the BBQ. Ordered the rib dinner with red beans and rice and cornbread. The red bean and rice were as advertised, spicy and flavorful, with generous amounts of meat and sausage. Likewise, the cornbread was very good, sweet and good textured with a pat of cinnamon butter on the top. The ribs were disappointing. They use loin ribs, which are very meaty, but without the fat that make spare ribs so tender when smoked. The center of the meaty portion of the ribs was white, indicating that it had not been smoked long enough for the smoke to penetrate all the way through, and they were somewhat tough, also indicating they were undercooked. Another in our party had ribs as part of her meal, and they were exactly the same. The ribs also arrived a little cool, so they had not been warmed up enough after being taken out of the cooler.Another in our party had the triggerfish, which was outstanding. All in all it was a good meal, but not up the the hype. I'm certain they are capable of better, and I will choose more carefully the next time I visit.

Visited this location last week for dinner. Sat at the bar where they have an excellent selection of local and other tap beers while we waited for a table to eat. The staff from the hostess, bartenders and wait staff were all friendly and attentive. This followed up with some very tasty food. Lots of selections that all looked great.

I could barely eat a quarter of the half of chicken. No smoke flavor, they must use a salty rub VERY salty. Totally uneatable. The baked beans were bland and the coleslaw had a weird wang to the flavor. Husband had the Prime Rib melt and said it was OK, but he wouldn't go back.

In town for a visit and a friend told me Jethros was the best tenderloin. So my sister and I ordered â1â with the waffle fries and said we were going to split it. When it was served it came out already split , with the accompaniments on each plate (onions and pickles). I love it when restaurants do that!!! Had unlimited drinks too and while we had to ask for our first refill, the other times the staff was attentive. We also asked to move tables as the a/c was blowing down on us! That didnât prove to be a problem for these folks and we were allowed to move to another table! Very friendly staff! Thoroughly enjoyed our visit there!!! Lunchtime wasnât too terribly busy but I understand diner is very crowded. Food is worth it!!!!
