We were on our last leg of the trip. Time for lunch. Hadn't eaten at a Country Kitchen in years. The special was a beef brisket sandwich with a side of vegetables. It was okay. Partner had breakfast, pancakes and sausage links. Also okay. It was like what I remembered about Country Kitchens, decent food, decent prices, decent service.

The Subway in Greenfield has the same stuff you are used to at a Subway - no surprises. However, should you plan to come here before 10am, it may be difficult to park as this seems to be the local gathering spot for coffee drinkers and the parking lot will be full of F-150s and Silverados at various angles. So I parked down the street. Nice folks running it and the food was what you would expect. For a national chain, that's a good thing.
Coach's Corner is your typical Drive-In Diner/ Ice Cream Shop. The food is very good and reasonably priced. Their chef was previously engaged at Lincoln's Lounge. The sevice can be hit or miss as most of the wait staff are school kids learning the ropes of their first job. The restaurant is conveniently located just a half mile north of Interstate 80, between the city park and the ball diamonds and soccer fields.

My daughter's birthday was coming up so I asked her if she wanted a birthday dinner at our house or go out. She answered, "Go out." (yeah) She said heard about the Rusty Duck and has wanted to try it. I made reservations for 5 at 5. There is a lot to choose from on the menu. The waitress was very helpful and friendly. We all ordered a steak dish. The house salad dressing, creamy parmesan, was very good. Three out of the five steaks were tough, hard to cut and hard to chew. The taste was good, but when you spend around $30 a steak you expect it to melt in your mouth.
We were gathering in Menlo to ride a steam engine train and needed breakfast. On Saturday they have a breakfast buffet. We loved the food. I wanted to try the pie, so I also ordered a slice of delicious rhubarb pie. The waitresses are friendly and the coffee flows. Excellent for its type of dinerânothing to look at but you go for the food.
