We are here for skiing and we looking for an alternative to our hotel breakfast and found this place on the way to Panorama. They served a very traditional unhealthy breakfast with many options and combinations of eggs, bacon, ham, sausage, toast, pancakes. Had some kids options too. The chocolate chip pancakes with their Huckleberry syrup was delicious.

Want a good pizza experience look no further than Peppi's. It is always busy which is a good sign. We have only eaten in the restaurant but they do take out also.

Strand’s overlooks the business section of Invermere and offers a commanding view of the Rocky Mountains. Today, as yesterday, Strand’s is an integral part of Valley history. It was built in 1912 as the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Ritchie. At that time Mr. Richie owned the Livery Stable in Invermere and did heavy hauling with his team and wagon. He later became a prominent Valley rancher.

The home was purchased by Dr. and Mrs. Filmer Coy around 1920. “Doc” Coy, as he was affectionately known, was for many years the only medical practitioner between Cranbrook and Golden. He set aside one room of his home for use as his consulting-study and many of his patients were examined and treated there. Dr. and Mrs. Coy were very influential and highly respected Valley citizens. Dr. Coy attained high military office during the Second World War.

strands-08The Ian Weir family purchased the home about 1946 and three generations of Weirs enjoyed its beauty and comfort. In 1979, the home was purchased by Tim Strand and he opened Strand’s Old House Restaurant in June 1980 with Chef Tony Wood. Renovations and furnishings reflect the historical integrity of the home and, in line with its rich heritage, Tim Strand named the dining areas the Ritchie, Coy and Weir Rooms, and a fourth dining room Harrington named after the maiden name of Tim’s mother.

Executive chef Tony Wood originally hails from New Zealand and has been an integral part of Strands since its inception. In 1992, Tony expanded on his partnership role and became the sole proprietor of Strands.
Strand's is somewhat of an institution in this valley - in the 35 years I have been coming here many things have changed but Strand's continues to offer the same service and dining experience. This can be good and bad. Consistency is a good thing when the food is outstanding and the menu unique but can also be repetitive and tiring after a while. I have eaten here twenty times in the 35 years and had great meals and "okay" meals - this last one was okay. The food is good generally but the service, wine list (which seemed to be filled with holes - why put a wine on the menu if you don't have any?) and prices seem to be inconsistent. Ordering a la carte is expensive. The lamb in the past has been very good and the pastas decent. The best deal we found this summer was the summer set price menu - three options for under $40. I had the bocconcini salad, the steak and the pie - it was good. Ordering wine was an adventure as the server had to make multiple trips to the cellar to see if they had the wine and then if there was more than one bottle. The server constantly complained that they were really busy tonight but only two other tables were occupied and the there were three servers? My take: good food, a little pricey, and average service.

Had dinner here the other night and we both ordered the Lemon Snapper. There was some confusion about what "starch" choices were available to accompany our entree but once sorted out we were good to dine. The calamari starter was perfectly cooked although the batter pretty much crumbled off. The vegetables and potatoes were great and while the fish was tasty it was a bit overdone/dry. Portions were so generous we couldn't finish all our fòod. I'd been in for lunch a month preciously and LOVED my Honey Garlic wrap. Overall well worth the money.

The Birchwood Winter Hours: Opened Tuesday - Saturday opened at 5pm Daily.

Dinner orders must be in kitchen by 9pm. During off-season, kitchen hours may vary depending on how busy we are.

We are closed Sundays & Mondays.
We don't know Invermere well, but we would bet most small cities like this don't have a restaurant as special and accomplished as Birchwood. In fact, many large city establishments could learn a thing or two from Birchwood.
The service was personable, professional and un-rushed. The decor is pleasing, offering a casual elegance.
We enjoyed a nice caesar salad, curry bowl and pasta special. Course timing was excellent, dishes were served warm, plentiful and very tasty. My pasta had mussels, shrimp and a Thai egg noodle base.
I like spices, and could have enjoyed a little more heat, however, the flavours were very nice. The mussels and shrimps were perfectly prepared.
If you are in the Kootenays and looking for a special meal, Birchwood should be on your list.

We decided to eat at Elements at Copper Point Resort rather than venture out to find something after a long day of travel. We were glad we did, the restaurant is very good with prompt service and lovely atmosphere. Our starter of bruschetta was enjoyable and I really loved my entree of butter chicken (but after the yummy bruschetta I was too full to finish the chicken!). Next time in BC we are planning a return to Copper Point and will definitely eat at Elements.
