Best Chinese takeout in the area. No matter what you order the good is always ready in 10 minutes. You wouldn't think you would get what you ordered since the staff on the phone have heavy accents, but they've never messed up yet. Excellent food, & no MSG added. Very cheap too!

Peking is a carry out Chinese restaurant that has the best flavor and value around. The owners are wonderful hard working people that greet you. I wish they had delivery!! But, it is well worth the effort to pick it up rather than go somewhere else! I love that they don't skimp. Their rice is fully flavored and not mixed with white rice like most others. We are never disappointed!

For many years we had, as most people, our fav Chinese restaurant! Yes, in Michigan City there are at least 3-4-5 if you include buffet types. We settled on Peking Restaurant and trying Oriental Pearl Restaurant! Oriental was a TOTAL disaster and like really good Chinese on Micro-Wave, while Peking went down the drain in terms of FOOD QUALITY! Like a LARGE order of S&S Shrimp had all of THREE shrimps!!! We had to find something better or drive to China Town in Chicago!!! Well we found this NEW establishment and that was GOURMET House on Franklin!!! We tried it now FIVE times! It is owned by a young Chinese family, but with a lot of old family along! The REPORT is:1. The normal EGG ROLL does not hit the mark! After our first visit, we did not order EGG ROLL again! While really nice, it had nothing inside but cabbage!!! Maybe a fluke??2. APPETIZERS are to die for, other than above! We LOVE the FRIED JUMBO SHRIMP, that you can get 5 or 10, and they are really Jumbo. We also love SHRIMP TOAST, but in our est. it was too OILY!3. SOUP! My GF loves EGG DROP and I like HOT and SOUR, both are the best!!!4. They have a VERY EXTENSIVE MENUE, but the SINGLE ITEM IS FOR TWO PEOPLE, not ONE! They really need to control the portions or they are going to go broke! We have now ordered at least 10 diff items from the main menue! ALL WERE OUTSTANDING, but LARGE!5. MY GF loves all, but thinks that the chef may put a little too much FIVE SPICE powder on some of the dishes.6. For all of those that do not like MSG, they claim not to use it and do all of the cooking in veg oil only!Hey, for the lunch menue you can PIG out for less than McD, any family type spred is like CHEEEEP for what you get!!LOOK!!! JUST THE BEST IN MICHIGAN CITY!!!
