What a great atmosphere and welcoming staff, we had the pleasure of having Oswaldo as our waiter and he so engaging even offering us a sampling of michelada due to the fact we were gringos .

We had chicken and steak tacos served on two corn tortillas with lettuce, tomato, onion and cilantro. They have a self serve salsa bar with several to choose from. The combo is served with rice and beans. The beans had a soup consistency and contained green onion, bacon and meat. The food was tasty. The colorful restaurant has a drive-up and dining area that is brightly painted in orange and yellow. Mexican music set the atmosphere and a soccer game was showing on a small flat-screen. Staff was friendly and prices were good - $1.79 per taco and $5.67 for the combo.

I love this place. It is nothing fancy, but a whole in the wall restraunt, but the food is great. It is made to order and always fresh. I have not been let down. After a long day of work and you want a real taco, enchilada, etc. this is the place I would go. Family owned and just over all good food. Have a great seafood selection as well. Just give it a try and see for yourself.

As far as taquerias go (and there are plenty to choose from in Waukegan), Toluca is the best due to its extensive menu (including plenty of vegetarian options), quick service and ambience/live entertainment. My husband always gets the burrito al pastor, and I have tried several seafood dishes. If you are overwhelmed by the choices in Mexican restaurants in Waukegan, head to Toluca #2 (the one on Washington Street near Butrick). The only negative is that they have no parking lot.
