If not for the modern-day goods sold in the retail establishments, you might think Galena was frozen in time. The six-block Main Street boasts striking examples of various architectural styles, ranging from French Colonial to Greek Revival, and a whopping 85% of the town is a national historic district. General Ulysses S. Grant, the 18th U.S. President, lived here briefly before leaving to head the Union troops in the Civil War. Upon his triumphant return, the town presented him with an elegant mansion. That house and other restored historic homes are open to the public. There's much more here to fascinate the history enthusiast: the Old Market House and the Historical Society and Museum, housed in a stunning Italianate home. Before its Civil War glory days, Galena was a booming lead-mining town. Today, you can descend underground into the Vinegar Hill Lead Mine. But don't stay down there too long, or you won't get to enjoy the rolling hills and lush valleys of this charming getaway, which also offers fine dining, numerous bed and breakfasts, golfing and antiquing.

Service was very good. Waiter was prompt and provided information about their menu items. We ordered a salad and supreme pizza and both were great. Would highly recommend this place.

Stopped here at the end of shopping day. Ordered the Meat Lovers Pizza which came with a side salad. The salad was very fresh and tasty. The pizza topping were fresh and good, didnât care for the bland crust which was advertised as Chicago Style.

While staying at Eagle Ridge Resort and Spa we were inspired by their statement in their welcome book, "let us take care of you this trip" which was encouraging the use of their restaurants' providing room service. Don't believe that it will happen!!! A pizza order was placed at 6:30 and was delivered at 8:30 after being told we'd have it within an hour. Two phone calls were made to just get it delivered at 8:30 after being informed it was ready at the 7:30 phone call. Very disappointing! Had planned on ordering breakfast but now will be eating offsite.
Where to eat Pub food in Galena: The Best Restaurants and Bars
First, I've never had the pizza. And I wish they offered pizza slices to go. I have been to Dillon's quite a few times for a beer, lunch and lately breakfast. Dillon's is the quintessential knotty pine corner tap, which are prevalent throughout the Midwest. It's where you would expect a chatty bartender or owner hanging out behind the bar, talking to customers, a cast of locals, maybe some decent bar food, and an atmosphere of camaraderie. Well, it's not quite there.Beers are available in bottles only, in a place that's begging for a few taps. Domestic, imported or some local craft beers are the choices. I don't really know if the bartender is really a bartender or a food server, so I've not ordered drinks. Staffed usually with two people-one out front and one in the kitchen. They appear to do a lot of breakfast and takeout business. The menu has appetizers, sandwiches, burgers, pizza and breakfast items. The skillet ($8.00) I had was pretty tasty, and the other breakfast items which have flown my me look good. Decent portions. I wish I could say the same for the lunch items. Kind of munchkin portions, and usually kind of thrown at you by the server. Prices are not bad, but I would not make this a lunch destination. Even the lunch specials ($6.25) I've had were just not worth it. There are quite a few pizza choices, but I know enough to know, I don't care to drop $20 on it here. So I like the atmosphere and the room. It's one of those places which might cause you to think, "maybe I'll open up a little place like this." Off the beaten Main St. path, you will at least get a little time with the locals.
