Sanders Restaurant

Sanders is a solid, typical diner. Average breakfast and above average lunch . Burgers , big salads and several homemade soups are their forte. We have gone here for years and tolerated the rude hosts and especially the owner. We live nearby and it was convenient . They shortened their hours ( no more dinner service) and we can't get there as often . We went last week, the hostess acted like she was doing us a favor. The waitress told us to "Hold on" twice. After 15 min of water only ( usually fast service ), and our waitress waiting on a table that arrived after us first, we were not happy. The final straw was when the hostess told us to move our car or be towed due to construction . We were parked legally in their lot, no signs were posted and the construction was NEXT DOOR AT THE HOLLIDAY INN.We obliged and moved our car, and our venue.Food and value but rude . We are done. Never again .

East of Eden Carry-Outs

East of Edens is located on the southwest corner of Cicero Ave. and Devon Ave. There is limited parking on the east side of the building, but more parking on the west side of the restaurant. As the name implies, it is just east of the Edens Expressway. The food is excellent, especially if you are looking for something light and quick. We both tried the lemon rice soup and we also ordered a pizza puff. It was the right amount of food for a light lunch. When the weather is nice, it is great to sit on their patio. It is a typical Greek, hot dog, burger & gyro menu, but with a lot more. As I said, excellent food and reasonable prices. You can't really ask for more.

Backyard Grill

I have to admit that I was intrigued by their menu, so my family and I ate at their Highland Park location there this week before Thanksgiving. Our family of 3 had chicken gyros and regular gyros. The chicken gyros was nothing more than pulled chicken that was dry and tasteless. I had hope that my daughters' regular gyros would be better. Imagine my surprise when I determined that this gyros was the worst gyros I have ever eaten in my life. It tasted more like lamb than the mix of lamb and beef it is supposed to be. The after taste was horrendous. Highland Park as a city has everything on the BYG menu but in multiple restaurants. Will I go back? Don't hold your breath.
