Steak 'n Shake has grown to be more than just steakburgers, fries and milk shakes, which have been the signature items on the menu since the franchise was founded in 1934 in Normal, Illinois. Today, to be more competitive with the dozens of fast-food hamburger chains that have leaped into the market in the last few decades, Steak 'n Shake has been persuaded to expand its menu to include breakfast and hot dogs and salads and desserts and other kinds of sandwiches. On our recent visit to the Steak 'n Shake location at 1825 Barrington Road in Hoffman Estates--one of the niftiest and cleanest and friendliest we have experienced--we decided to try some different items. Sure, the double steakburger with cheese and the thin, crispy fries and chocolate milk shake are staples that can't be beat. But we opted to sample the chili and Classic Melts, just for a change of pace and taste. The genuine chili with 100 percent beef and beans and spices, with spaghetti, was a real treat. My wife chose the Frisco Melt, two steakburgers with American and Swiss cheese on grilled sourdough. I chose the All-America Melt, two steakburgers with melted American cheese topped with onion, pickle, ketchup and mustard on grilled sourdough. With cole slaw. Another new item worth trying is the Chicago-style steak frank, a grilled all-beef frankfurter topped with mustard, tomato slices, pickle, relish and sport peppers on a poppy seed bun. And the new desserts are a treat, too...root beer float, brownie fudge sundae, Oreo ice cream sundae and hot fudge or strawberry sundae. They didn't serve those things at our old hometown Steak 'n Shake in the 1950s.

Once a year we can take our grandchildren out to lunch from school. Jimmy Johns is fast and easy to get to. I usually get a #2Roast Beef with the mayo on the side in packets. This Jimmy Johns doesn't have unsweet tea. My grandson has a peanut allergy and can not eat their chips, since they are fried in peanut oil.

3 stars for cleanliness, friendly, and fast service. I can't comment on the taste because I'm not a fan of subway. Sorry. This place is located in a strip mall surrounding CVS and other restaurants. They keep their bread and ingredients fresh here =)

Previously living in Ohio, our family used to go to Jersey Mikes's all the time. When we found out that one was being opened in our city, we were extremely happy. I have gone to this Jersey Mike's so many uncountable times since it's opening and have had nothing buy excellent service and food. They have so many different subs to choose from, hot and cold (choose your toppings). You can even get wraps and salads. They even have a bun-less choice call "sub in a tub". You can order 3 different sizes of subs and get them in a combo if you want (includes chips and drink). Jersey Mike's subs are fresh and delicious. Definitely check this place out!!!
