Went there 2 weeks ago. The food was not good. Ordered a chile relleno and burrito. It was stuffed with chile sauce and some sort of meat by-product of chorizo and who knows what. Nasty, would not even feed this to my dog. Unless you're drunk off the margaritas or coronas, I would not eat this stuff. It's a disgrace to say it is "authentic mexican food".

Ottawa Illinois does not have that many good restaurants and has even fewer excellent ones. One of the better restaurants was a Mexican restaurant called Fondita Mexican Grill. It had been operating in Ottawa for several years and the food had simply gotten better and better. However, on our last 3 visits the food has not been fit to eat. Overall my opinion is if they have changed chefs, they need to do whatever they can to get him/her back.

Esther is a small-town, local celebrity. She always wanted her own small restaurant and she finally got it. She is kind, decent, friendly and her food is Mexican home cooking.Everybody from union laborers to the mayor pops in for lunch. It is countertop ordering with a few spots to sit indoors and a few tables outdoors. No table service.The burrito, tacos, tostadas, and any specials are all cooked to order. The ingredients are tasty and fresh but often surprisingly bland. If you like it spicy, just tell Esther.This is primarily a to-go restaurant, in the corner of a building, in a parking lot. Nothing fancy, just good wholesome Mexican food and the realization of Esther's dream.
