I went to this restaurant this month for a luncheon with some coworkers. We ordered the spaghetti and meatballs, calamari, spicy shrimp, chicken parm -> all was excellent. Excellent location for Large Parties. The Service was just OK. The restaurant was empty but server was no where to be found and was slow with getting drinks.mlukasik331, we're sorry to hear about the service during your dining experience on your recent visit. Made from scratch, family recipe Italian cuisine in Highwood since 1932, and at it's current location since 1982. Serving a selection of Fresh Seafood delivered daily including our very popular Prince Edward Island Steamed Mussels. Also, we offer some of
Visiting up north friends brought in pizza and salad and we were pleasantly surprised. The pizza is four stars while the salads we had were very unremarkable and average.....Thin pizza with a slightly sweet sauce was great.... sausage was delicious but couldâve used a bit more. Veggie pizza also was well received despite spinach, not my choosing. With so many nearby pizza options including Pieroâs in HP, I doubt weâd order in from here again... but would be open to eating their Italian food in their restaurant.

Our first time here. Reasonably conversation friendly. Bread comes with cooked garlic spread. Yummy. Enjoyed our salads. Mrs. especially enjoyed her pasta primavera. I had the very large, off the menu special, veal Milanese. Was good but probably not something I would order again next time back. Service was very good.

Good service but mediocre food. Tables are squeezed together so seating is almost communal. Chairs nearly touch each other and navigating between tables an adventure. Of seven entrees served, three were sent back for reheating. Server was highly apologetic and offered complimentary dessert. Nothing here screams "return" as there are many Italian restaurants available rated higher.

When we arrived on short notice, with a reservation it was not crowded. Smaller than many of the other Rosebud restaurants and similar menu. However, menu not quite as large and did not find some of my favorites. Service was excellent to begin with and diminished as restaurant filled up. Food was OK, but not to the level I'd expect from Rosebud chain. My lasagna was OK, but fish was dry and small portion. Small portions is not what I expect from Rosebud. Lemon drop martini was not well made. They did not have any beers I like, so ordered a Coke. Seating is bistro style and crowded. Place has no acoustic attenuation, so by the time we left it was too noisy. Frankly, bistro style noisy and crowded is not my cup of tea.

The last couple of times we ordered pizza here they didn't resemble their former offerings. The crust was now... mediocre - at best {akin to cardboard}, there was less / insufficient sauce, less / insufficient cheese and less meat {sausage}. The... adjusted product is now akin to other mediocre local options - like Judy's [a place we still can't understand how it manages to remain open]. This pretty much leaves Buffo's - in Highwood, or Lou Malnati's - in either Highland Park, or Lake Forest [neither of Lou's locations in Lake County have dine-in facilities]. For our tastes, these are the only viable options in the area. Of course, neither of the latter hold a candle to Pat's of Lincoln Park [Schubert and Lincoln Ave.]. Seriously, the 1st time we experienced the new style from IL Forno's we assumed - after years of a highly acceptable product, that they either had someone new in the kitchen and/or it was an off-night. However, giving it / them another try a couple of months later and getting the same significantly mediocre - at best, 'pizza'; well, fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice - shame on me. As The Who opined: ' I won't get fooled again.'

Great Italian classic food. We actually like to do take out or delivery from here. It is packed every Friday night so it's just easier.I am especially fond of their spinach lasagna. It's the absolute best in the north shore! Love the homemade tomato sauce with just the right amount of garlic and spices. It's filled with lots of noodles and cheesy goodness. The fish dishes are also really really good! I tried the bruschetta for the first time recently and I liked it but it's not really traditional. Think more like a cross of French bread pizza and a traditional bruschetta. It was made on garlic bread with the traditional tomatoes and olive oil but then had melted cheese on it. It was tasty and I would get it again with the proper expectation.Service is always super friendly. As a family owned and operated business they make you feel like you are part of their family.

We had a real good dinner here the other night. All the ingredients are super fresh and you can tell the pasta is homemade. I had chicken vesuvio, which would have been great except for the ten pounds of garlic on top....it was everywhere...I could barely eat it. Plus it was swimming in a bed of butter/olive oil....I would not recommend ordering this dish...or order it without garlic and sauce on side. Too bad, since the chicken seemed quite tasty. However, I would return and try the pasta dishes which I think they are known for. Service was a bit sketchy, I ordered a glass of Chianti and ended up with some sort of white wine....and at end of meal we got the wrong bill.....and then even after that our waitress said she charged the wrong amount....huh?? This place is VERY noisy so that may have something to do with the miscommunications....however I would still come back and recommend to others. Prices are ok for the area and what you get. Come early or you probably have a long wait as they do not take reservations and there are only like 15 tables.
