A backstreet location and a good review brought us to this small, wood-panelled restaurant in very tourist-y Aveiro. It specialises in fish and we ordered one of the suggested dishes – an expensive prawn curry with fruit for two people.
Our waitress was sullen and we had to virtually beg for something green or vegetable-y to accompany our meal. They found us a dish of burnt garlic, cabbage and carrot and had the temerity to charge us extra for it.
The dish itself was terrible. Although the prawns were tender and well-cooked, they came in a gelatinous sauce bitter with uncooked curry powder. The fruit – a pile of pineapple, apples and grapes – had been added to the dish stone cold, so the whole dish was barely warm, adding to its unpleasantness. €30 for this dish.
Maybe their other dishes are better, but I'd be suspicious of anywhere that gave you fish knives and no finger bowls when serving shellfish.

First of all: Make a reservation, whether for lunch or dinner. We tried once without a reservation, and the wait was an hour. However, with a reservation the next evening, we were seated immediately. Our waiter's English was excellent, as was his recommendation, which was grilled prawns, which came after the fabulous mussels in sauce as our appetizer. We ate indoors, though they do have outdoor Seating, but perhaps not in the evening. I couldn't rave enough about the prawns, or the mousse, or the port. In addition, our bill was surprisingly affordable. We're spent that much in a Brew Pub in the US. This is a don't miss it restaurant.

Excellent. Authentic restaurant with great service and fresh fish, delivered daily by fishermen themselves. Straight from the catch on your plate. Gina was our waiter and she spoke fluent Spanish and English. The whole team made us feel welcome and part of a bigger whole, which is very nice when traveling.
Prices are very reasonable. The food is simple and of high quality. No fancy stuff. The wine selection was incredible. We dined here two nights in a row. Highly recommended.

Facing the local fish market and the canal dos botirões, at the heart of Aveiro's historic center, O Bairro is the place where you'll have one of the best gastronomic experiences of your life. Starting with the "33cl de caldeirada", followed by the fish&seafood rice and finishing with our amazing dessert of "Ovo Mole à Bairro", for sure you'll want to come back on the next day to experience other deli...
Having tried another nearby restaurant the night before and been disappointed I consulted TripAdvisor more thoroughly for our second night's meal. On Reading about O Bairro's adventurous attitude to modern Portuguese food I booked by phone immediately in high hopes of a meal that would satisfy both stomach and pocket! We weren't disappointed! Although our waitress was a little severe she didn't lack any attentiveness to our needs - brisk and efficient service was the order of the day and I don't mind that. The food was excellent, especially the rightly applauded Risotto de Camarao and Prato Vegetariano. To complement the food we drank the waiter's recommended Lua Cheia Vinhas Velhas - excellent and only €12 the bottle. I finished off the meal with the chef's mystery dessert 'Misterio do Bairro' - I won't spoil the surprise but it was delicious! So choose this restaurant for at least one of your nights in Aveiro and you'll go away satisfied with happy memories. Costs was €65 for two all in.

We really didn't know what we were getting into here, we had driven up the coast in the morning and by the time we were approaching Aveiro we were REALLY ready for some lunch. I asked Google for "restaurants near me" and this one came up with some good review, and we said "why not!"
We were the only tourists in the place, but the staff was very helpful and the food was quite good! This is authentic Portuguese food, not some derivation invented by a chef in a big city restaurant trying to be clever. Nice piece of cod, freshly prepared with a nice sauce.

I found this lounge bar quite by chance and had a great surprise. I stopped here for a late morning snack and had white wine from the region and some fried calamares which were great.
Since it is located right on the beach the view is also superb
