A mixture of forested mountains, alpine peaks, wildflower meadows, deep river canyons, and high plains deserts, Idaho is a paradise for golf, skiing, fly fishing, and river rafting. Boise, the capital, is the state's largest city and airline hub. North of Boise are golf, lake, and ski resorts from McCall in the south to Sandpoint and Coeur D'Alene in the north. East of Boise are the ski slopes of Ketchum and Sun Valley. East of Sun Valley are Craters of the Moon National Monument, Pocatello, Idaho Falls, and the small town of Island Park just across the border from Yellowstone National Park. Boise's Basque Museum and Cultural Center reflects having the largest Basque population in the U.S. Reflecting Idaho's diverse heritage, near the Idaho Historical Museum in Boise's Julia Davis Park is the Idaho Black History Museum's chronicle of the slave York who served the Lewis & Clark Expedition. After a family visit to the Peregrine Fund's World Center for Birds of Prey and an outdoor performance at the Idaho Shakespeare Festival, the next stop after Boise is likely to be Payette Lake in McCall or Sun Valley and Ketchum. About 100 miles north of Boise, past Cascade Lake, McCall takes you to the shores of Payette Lake. Go golfing, fishing, hiking, biking, waterskiing, sailing, boating, or whitewater river rafting. Ski or snowshoe Brundage Mountain or Tamarack Resorts, as well as Ponderosa State Park in winter. Ice skate year-round at Manchester Ice & Event Centre. About 450 miles north of Boise, there are resort lakes near skiing and golf at Coeur d'Alene, Hayden Lake, and Sandpoint. Golf, tennis, mountain biking, hiking, fishing, rafting, and hunting are popular in Sun Valley and Ketchum. Sockeye salmon may no longer do much spawning in Redfish Lake, but the boating and mountain scenery in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area make the short trip north to Stanley worthwhile. When the snows come the whole family will head for the slopes of Soldier Mountain, Bald Mountain, Dollar Mountain, or the Sun Valley Resort. A tiny forested town of about 250 people, Island Park has a large reservoir with fishing and boating, as well as Henry's Fork of the Snake River for fly fishing. It's only 15 miles from Yellowstone as well.

Both the Sun Valley Lodge and the Sun Valley Inn are OK but certainly not worth the $250 nightly rooms. I can see how 50 years ago this was a special place but the rooms are very small, old and they've already been renovated. The showers were very big, new, and up to par. Not the small, ordinary rooms. They do offer free parking. Plus there was a computer outage and nobody could check in as they don't have a backup protocol to manually check people in. Just not really sure what the whole draw to Sun Valley is. Maybe when there is snow? Perhaps the skiing folks enjoy this area for some unknown reason? To us, this is not at all comparable to Mammoth in CA or Vail in CO. And we aren't even rich snobs, nor do we ski! Sun Valley is mostly nice rolling hills with cattle and horses, which is nice but not what we expected. Decide for yourselves....

Great room, and guest service. We were greeted with a birthday wish and cookies in the room. We spent the next day experiencing a couples massage. Spa service was great. All areas were very clean. We will be back!

Nestled in the pristine wilderness of Northern Idaho is Hill's Resort. Nationally recognized for its exceptional accommodations and cuisine, Hill's Resort is the top choice for business or pleasure.
A view of the lake is Hills Resorts only redeeming quality. They have a dock to launch your boat. They have no real perks in the room, NO TV! When asked about TVs, we were told none on the site. Not that I wanted to stay in my room the whole time but TV would have been nice. Also the restaurant staff was not into customer service either. No was their favorite word. You could sit in the bar and and order from the bar menu only. You could only order from the dinning menu if you were in the dining room. The bar and dinning room were separated by only a pane of glass. To me when you go someplace calling themselves a resort, you are usually treated very well, not like you are staying at a drive up Motel with a capital M!

Have stayed here several times. Clean and quiet. Helpful owner who made accommodations for my wife that had health issues. Good experience. No pets a plus. Located in Cavanagh Bay south end of Priest Lake. Nice restaurant close by.

The untimate North Idaho experience, our President's Homes are built of rough-hewn logs and native rock. Upon entering the home, a central foyer welcomes guests and leads them into a large living room with a floor to ceiling fireplace, fully appointed kitchen and a family size dining area. These mini lodges feature four 750 square foot private suites. Each suite contains a king bed, cozy sitting area with queen size sofa, wet bar, fireplace, large deck and oversized bathroom, hot tub and BBQ.
Even though our foursome played at a pace matching PGA guidance (18 holes in 4 hrs, 15 minutes), our play was interrupted 6 times by "members" pushing through. 6 times! A staffer said that members like to play fast and we should let them through. Hey, after 10:30 am, the course is open to both members and nonmembers. They do not couple twosomes into foursomes. They let singles play who are always pushing against a foursome. Completely disappointed to have paid $94 each to experience such gross arrogance. This was the 30th game our foursome played around the broader Spokane region but our first - and last - time at The Idaho Club!

Yurts are circular insulated tents for skiers.
Well worth the climb up the hill, this yurt sits on the saddle of the ridge and you can enjoy spectacular views while dining on the patio or whether in the yurt with the window panels open (screens and clear panels both installed too). Comfortably sleeps up to six. The experience will awaken your peaceful senses and appreciation of the unspoiled beauty of nature. Need to book well in advance for peak times.

Loved the stay except a few minor inconveniences in the room. like the rooms and bath were smaller than expected and the bed could have been firmer. But were compensated by great location, facilities and service.

We did Yellowstone so Wildrose is an excellent home base 15 minutes out of congested Yellowstone. The condo was clean, the staff were over the top nice and met every request with a smile. We visited a Rodeo while we were there and spent 5 days in Yellowstone. Loved it and would go back. Jim Bruce and family.

Schweitzer Mountain Resort manages accommodations in the Selkirk Lodge, White Pine Lodge and various off site condominiums. All guest check-in and check-out is in the Selkirk Lodge lobby.
10/10, but don't tell anyone. Its an amazing place to ski at an amazing value. The weather was a bit concerning during the week (slightly above freezing/rain) but the folks on the mountain did a great job having it ready to go the next morning. Bye bye Colorado.

Ultimately there is something magical about a visit to The Coeur d'Alene... With idyllic landscape, year-round activities, and its spectacular setting at the shore of one of America's most beautiful lakes, it is no wonder that Coeur d'Alene has been christened the "Playground of the Northwest". We have mastered the art of relaxation. With luxurious accommodations, rejuvenating spa treatments, sumptuous cuisine, and breathtaking holiday displays, this four-star resort continues to be the destination of choice for discerning travelers worldwide.
The rooms are super dated and in need of an update, the woodwork is old and bashed, our patio tiles were cracked and shoddily filled in, and the bathroom grout in the shower was molded. However saying all of that, it was comfortable and we were relaxed. The bedding and towels, were clean. We enjoyed walking around the foyer shops and liked visiting the Starbucks and relaxing. We will be back but hope it's not too long before updates start.
