We stayed in the Bestland hotel and the restaurant is right there on the 2nd floor. Packed with locals, we were offered to sit in the next door bar and have the restaurant's sushi there. It's a good deal as the bartender has great English. The Sushi (mostly Nigiri) was perfect / sublime / everything you expect from high-end sushi in Japan, and truly make a unique experience you can't find anywhere else in the world. This is not a budget sushi place, but definitely not overpriced. The plate in the picture cost 4000 Yen but included my special request of sea urchin and fatty tuna. There are combo deals with Sashimi, Sushi and Tempura for 5000-6000 yen

TonQ gets all the plaudits, but to my mind this low key neighbour serves the better hirekatsu. Unusually the pork is cylindrical rather than beaten flat. Though on the main road and right by Gasto, access is a little tricky: either you head past it and take a sharp left down an almost hidden lane or more easily, after seeing the queue at TonQ you head over the crossroads and take a right behind the Sato family restaurant. As it's mostly washitsu it's probably not suitable if you've a dodgy knee and I didn't see an English menu.
This is the Tsukuba branch of the traditional Sushi restaurant "Kintarozushi" in Asakusa, Tokyo, since 1921. Yet, it's a good Sushi Restaurant in Tsukuba at affordable price!! Not only Sushi, but also other Japanese cuisines such as Tempura are also good here. My foreign friends also love this restaurant and I can recommend this restaurant to everybody!!

Popular with town and gown alike, this small, family-run tonkatsu restaurant located just off Higashidori provides filling and delicious tonkatsu, with an emphasis on rosu rather than hire. For lunch, I recommend the mixed fry (hire, ebi and white fish). Be prepared to release your belt a notch afterwards.

Ibaraki Prefecture is renown for its great pork. I love this restaurant, where you can enjoy wonderful Pork Shabu Shabu of Ibaraki. Especially, they use unique soups with Yuzu, which match well with the pork and are very delicious.

This is a great sushi restaurant. It has great sushi with fish chosen fresh from the fish market by the chef every day. Staff are friendly and make you really feel relaxed and at home. It has a relaxed atmosphere and is very popular with the locals.

As a Ton Katsu fan, I thought this was one of the best. We visited their main outlet, the Hon Ten, which is a few blocks from the Okura Hotel where we were staying. Even at 20:30 mid- week there was a queue, but it took only 10 minutes to be seated at the bar.I ordered the 240g (a bit more than a half pound) Hirei cut and it was fabulous. The sauce was perfect with the grind- in- the- bowl sesame seeds, and the cabbage dressing was the best I have ever had. Ton Q have about ten outlets for Ton Katsu plus an Italian restaurant on Route 356 and two Yakiniku places, one of them just 100m from the Italian outlet. Highly recommended.

Well, well, well...Straight off the plane, jump on bus to Tsukuba, drop bags at hotel, and boom..Straight into the quaint little Ramen House..I know there's a thousand more possibly like these, but when you find a good one, you talk about it..Great little find near the Fronteir Hotel in Tsukuba.. a vending machine greats you to order, there is a picture menu, match the writing and all is good.. if not, surprise yourself!!But..The chef will help you. Speaks enough good English to help you select a tasty brothed up Ramen and a beer...I had the Pork Ramen large bowl, serving of the fresh Gyoza..Full hearty broth, with a little spice, I always add a good deal more, living in Indo does that to you.. the flavour is intense, as a good Ramen should be, enough veges for each spoon full, homemade noodles, which can't be beaten.. the difference between packet and home made is vital.. then the meat.. succulent pork.. a good portion of pig, but a good portion of the fat to tantalise the taste buds..Foods of Japan... one of my favourites...

can you ever get bored of tonkatsu? I don't think so and when an unpretentious place like this frequented by everyone from salary men, house wives, grannies and white collar workers can deliver such a gourmet serving of the stuff I am convinced it's the ultimate food for everyday people
