A quirky noodle shop filled with antiques and vintage-y posters along the main thoroughfare in Kinosaki. We enjoyed some hot udon and noodles here on a rainy winter's day. The shopowners (who appeared to be married) were very endearing and welcomed us warmly. The wooden menus on the table are in Japanese but they have English menus available.

We ate 6 dishes of delicious soba. There were English instructions, which was handy, because I didn't know how to eat soba before hand. We were first given plain dashi and told to eat the first dish plain to enjoy the taste of the dashi. Afterward we added wasabi, green onion, and spices. There were eggs to crack in and yamaimo to eat on the side.We ate sitting on pillows at low tables in the traditional Japanese style. It's located in the quaint town called Izushi Castle town. It basically looks as if you've stepped into the Edo period. If you find yourself in this town, definitely stop in at Kogetsudo soba.

We were attracted by the big crab model hanging above the signboard and the food photos outside. But once we were inside, we were lost as everything was in Japanese, and moreover we felt ignored by the restaurant staff. There was a ticket vending machine and everything was in Japanese. As we were scrambling without any help, we spent about 10 minutes trying to figure out what and how to order, until we realised we could match the photos of the food on the wall to either the Japanese words or the nos. on the ticket vending machine. Once we managed to get our tickets, the food was very fresh and tasty and the staff seemed also nice to us. In the salmon-salmon roe don, the amount of salmon and roe provided were generous, and the taste was really good. The crab claw don was also good, and we enjoyed having the experience of having live abalone cooked over a fire on our table. At the end of our meal, we had no regrets spending those 10 minutes figuring out how and what to order, and as our first meal in Kinosakionsen, it was really nice.

Orizuru in Kinosaki onsen adds to an already delightful tourist location that does not rely solely on the 7 public baths, but also a fabulous sushi restaurant! The chef owner and his son run a relaxed but meticulously organised ship, and the fish is divinely fresh. We ordered a selection of sashimi, 2 signature platters of sushi, a side dish of tempura, and then followed the gregarious locals in ordering a dish of flamed oysters with a squirt of lemon. The quality of all the local fish was excellent and the knife skills of the chef top class, we were also treated to the local tajima beef nigiri which melted in the mouth as expected. To be honest if we had time i would have spent the day there and we were treated like regulars from the beginning, i could not recommend it more highly.

We waited for about 20 minutes in the waiting list. It was completely worth it. Super fresh seafood, everyhing we tried was delicious. It was crab season, and it was outstanding. Prices are not cheap but are fair. Even the cheapest sake was delicious. Highly recommended
Nishimuraya Sanpou is a new restaurant in Kinosaki Onsen built around this very uniquely Japanese fixture. We invite all to enjoy the equally unique tastes crafted by our newly assembled Japanese. The open Japanese irori (cooking hearth) is located at the
We were staying in the Nishimuraya Hotel Shogetsutei and saw an ad for the restaurant in the hotel elevator. Yet even when we came in - the wooden interior is stunning! - we did not suspect that this restaurant was so good. The first time we went for a la carte: all - evidently fresh and - local products (from the salt and the sugar to the fish and the beef) and masterfully prepared. The staff speaks English well and is keen to explain the (origins of the) food and make recommendations. We then decided to book a 7-course dinner the next day (and also decided to have lunch there the next day). All was perfect again. What a chef! Truly recommended!Thank you very much for choosing to visit with us and your warm words. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your time with us.Head chef of Nakayasu was so glad to hear your comment! We will continue working hard to make our guests comfort and relax.Look forward to welcoming you again!
