Most people come to Hualien to visit the Taroko Gorge. And with good reason—it's simply beautiful. With rope bridges over rivers, hiking trails with astounding views, and temples cut into the mountainsides, it's an unforgettable place. Feel the full power of the ocean at Shihtiping, a two-hour drive from Hualien, where the waves crash into the rocky shore.

I never bothered writing a review for any accomodation. That's how good this place is. Location was super convenient, I was visiting Taroko Gorge so I valued the proximity to the train/bus station. It's also quite near to the start of the town's main street. The dorm room was nice, it had everything I needed and the bed was comfortable. In the common area there's free coffee/tea (24h) and toast in the morning. The vibe of the place is remarkable, it's very relaxed and welcoming. They have a second-hand charity section and they also seem to be very eco-friendly, caring about recycling, etc. The real stars of the show were the staff members. They made me feel welcome and they helped me with everything I needed. They gave me great tips on what to do and eat in Hualien, and we also shared great conversations! I am really thankful for their kindness. I'm glad I chose this place, I'm definitely going back to Hualien in the future and I'll 100% choose this hostel again.

Well-positioned in the downtown area, Hualienwow Hostel is an ideal departure venue of the trip in the adorable city. It is only 2-minute walking distance away from Hualien Train Station, where public transportation can be easily reached.
Perhaps it was just me, but when I stayed for 2 nights, there were many groups of school children also staying, so at times I found it to be quite noisy. For one of the days, they totally occupied the breakfast dining place. I actually also found a dead tiny cockroach in my dormitory, however the cleaner promptly cleaned it up the next day. Apart from this, the beds were very spacious and comfortable, big bathrooms, and very convenient location. Taroko Gorge is amazing and should not be missed!

The only possible complaint I have about the hostel is that it's not right at the Train Station but that means it's closer to some awesome restaurants, which ends up being better in my opinion. Super welcoming hosts, that didn't make me switch beds even though I extended my stay online in a cheaper room. When the restaurant I wanted to was closed on a Thursday the person working that night knew they had a location downtown and called to make sure they were open. He also helped look for train tickets for me and offered to drive me to get them if need be (thankfully I decided to stay an extra night instead) If staying there I recommend eating at the Dumpling House (its name in google maps), 10 steamed dumplings for 50, which I would've eaten every day in Taiwan if I could, and Dos Tacos which is really good Mexican for a reasonable price (395 for a pulled pork Chimichanga). My other advise is to leave for Taroko as early as possible and arrange to go on one of the trails that requires a permit, I wish I had done this and though about going back to hike and eat tacos & dumplings. One of the people I met did the bike trip down to Taitung and if it's not too hot out and you're fit that seems like the best way to see the east coast. I went from Hualien to Kaohsiung and it feels like I missed at lot, so if you're not pressed for time explore more outside of the west coast cities.

This stay in the middle of the park was the best choice we could make. Don't come here for the good food but for the views, the proximity to trails and stunning and beautiful nature. Rooms have everything you need but are nothing fancy, value for money. Staff is very nice. Would stay here again!

Enjoy slow travel I like to carry a backpack and enjoy a slow trip. Slowly, slowly stepping out of the pace, looking at the world with your heart. Slowly, stroll through the streets of the slow city and paint with your eyes. Discover the characteristic cafes in the hidden alleys, or the charming little shops at the end of the street. The dullness in the daily life of the neighborhood has deepened

A friend of mine introduces me to this Hive Bnb.. The location is great.. Only about 5 minutes walk from the train station. The staff are very friendly, the place is clean and i love the fact that they make the rules clear that no food is allowed to be brought to the sleeping area.. all foods and drink have to be consumed on the 2nd floor. which is the lounge area.. The lounge area is a good place to hang around and knowing other backpackers who stayed there as well.. The person who manages the place, Chen Ya, is an awesome ladies, very nice to talk with.. Everything was really awesome.. But if you are a person who requires a personal space, perhaps this is not the place for you. And if you are lady and staying staying in 3rd floor, you have to go to the 4th floor to take a shower. Other than that, everything is fine..
