The nearer the Church, the farther from God, this saying is quite applicable in this instance, we have lived in Howick/Cockle Bay all the time and have never visited Shamrock Cottage....our loss albeit
Fantastic baking which is true to tradition and made on site, their pies are delicious and as for the desserts, there are plenty of choices, the carrot cake and orange & almond cake stand out.

Owners are Billy and Julianna - lovely people
My wife and I visited Windross House for dinner to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. We booked rather late so had to settle for a later booking.
This did not worry us at all and when we arrived, the restaurant was still packed. We were seated quickly though and from the moment we settled, we were well looked after.
Our meals did take a little time to arrive to start with, however the manager explained they were unexpectedly one person down due to illness, and once the pressure came off from the other diners, everything went very smoothly.
The service could not be faulted. We were kept well informed where our meals were at all times.
The meals were ordered were cooked exactly as we ordered.
A most successful evening and the perfect choice

My husband and I had dinner here. It was delicious, the pasta was great and the rocket salad was amazing! Everything was reasonably priced, including the sparkling wine that we started with. Service was great!

This cafe us one of those places that you want to return to time after time. The owner , Sanjay and wife Mika , runs this place with great home cook food and fantastic service . Sometimes we come here to catch up with local gossip!
You will find an eclectic collection of pictures and memorabilia on the walls and around the place , obviously collected from their travels.
The staff are friendly , the coffee and food is great , the atmosphere relaxed. We love coming here...

Dropped in without a reservation on a quiet Saturday evening. There was a group of 10 across from us and another table of 2.
Not a lot of atmosphere and the place is looking quite tired and due for a spruce-up.
As for the food, it was OK and satisfied the need for curry!

Have been visiting this place for couple of years as it's near home - meeting up with friends for lunch as they do $17 lunches. Have never been disappointed.
Until lunch today. Granted it's year end season and there was a bit of a crowd but to wait for almost 45 mins for our meals was ridiculous.
(if not for the fact most places were still closed, we would have left).
To top it off, the food was a big let down.
My sirloin steak was over done when I ordered medium. The head waitress apologized and took it back. The second one was just a little better and she apologized again.
Hubby's big breakfast had too much of the middle eastern/Indian flavor to it - no butter but some lentils dip and the usual beans were done with spices as well.
Several friends have commented they have stopped going as food quality has gone down.
Now we know why.

nowadays with so many indian eating outlet sprouting out with $10 meals, we decided to head into an old establishment for a revisit.
flavours were great, rich and complicated, yum! some of these new places cannot compare. the chain outlets serve ho hum food. service was not much to comment about, small, cosy, simple place, unlike some of these newer, big but so what?!
sure to make this our preferred indian food haunt. just an oldy but still very goody!

Service is shocking on 2 recent trips
1st time bar man was clueless - couldn't poor a beer, nor recall even the simplest order nor do bill
2nd was worse Went with work colleagues post sport- refused to let us have more than 1 drink despite it only being 9.50 and others in the bar ordering drinks or nursing 2 pints. We explained this only seemed to be losing them money. We attempted to reason with them but they were fixed and said they have to draw the line as the reason. Strangest interpretation of last orders I've seen anywhere.A joke.
We won't be back - much better places nearby to go to nearby
