This restaurant is located right next to the Mammoth site which we did not have time to visit. We were seated right away and had a friendly nice server. The food was really good and the wait for it was not long. Had a delicious dessert there too. Would return here to eat...we ate there twice.

I expected a great fudge brownie blizzard when I stopped by this shop on my way out of town, but the friendly smile and personable interaction at the drive-thru window was a great bonus!

Authentic Hawaiian Shave Ice (real shaved ice, not crushed), Huge Ice Cream Scoops on handmade waffle cones
This little hole in the wall (or lean to more accurately) has the best ice cream and homemade waffle cones I've had in a long time (also note they plug the bottom of their cones with a chocolate ball so they don't drip on you as the ice cream melts - brilliant!).
We just stopped in looking for wifi somewhere later in the day - no dice on that, just ice cream. So we ordered something anyway - the raspberry with chocolate chunks in a cone was to die for.
Then we sat out front on their patio, hot spotted off our phone and enjoyed the scenery - an overall win!

Worth stopping here for some good homemade food. Everything is made fresh and served hot and delicious. Friendly staff. Only draw back for me was the kitchen staff appeared to be watching us eat our food the entire meal, that was a bit uncomfortable.

This is the most interestingl restaurant filled with locals. It is fairly small and very very busy. The servers are friendly and take your order quickly. The food is cooked to order and it takes quite a while to arrive. Do NOT come here if you are in a hurry. But it is worth the wait. Definitely include green chili and hash browns in your order. The pancakes are the best I have ever had. The atmosphere is cute, lots of local stuff for sale and hanging up all around . we really loved it..

Pizza place with local flavor. It takes awhile for the pizza to be prepared, but worth the wait. The owner gave us a little tour and told us the history while we waited. Love to support hometown businesses like this.

The 1891 Steakhouse and Bistro is located in the lobby of the Historic Red Rock River Resort, built in 1891. We opened June 13th, 2017 and welcome back Chef Rebecca from the previous Blue Vervain Restaurant. We feature locally raised beef and South Dakota grown ingedients whenever we can. Chef Rebecca creates many culinary masterpieces and we offer vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options.
Tucked into Red Rock Hotel, this is an unusual find for South Dakota. Although the service is not professional, it is friendly and welcoming. Our server was extremely courteous and sweet. The food is innovative for this part of the country. Summer peach salad was refreshing yet spicy. Rib eye perfectly done. Thai noodles, although not particularly Thai, had a tasty peanut sauce with fresh vegetables. The shrimp grilled to perfection.

Coffeehouse, Pub and Grill. Serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We serve gourmet coffees, espresso's, smoothies, soda's, a large range of draft and bottled beer and a full bar. We open early and stay open late.
Sorry for the odd title - but it captures my impression of this place, which was a positive one. We had dinner here after visiting Mount Rushmore. After eating at many smaller, no-frills local places while on our tour (which I did enjoy immensely), this place was a welcome change of pace. I almost worried it may be too trendy. Living outside of New York City, trendy often blurs like wallpaper to me so I like to avoid too much of it when I travel. The Vault felt trendy enough where I felt more in my comfort zone than in the smaller restaurants where I wondered if I might be called out uncomfortably for being from a big urban area, yet the Vault also felt down to earth and "small" (in a good way!) enough where I still felt like I was on a distant adventure from home. There weren't a lot of people in the place (it was a Thursday evening) but I got the sense that it appealed more to a younger "crowd" which I liked.
I ordered a grilled cheese tower, and based on the description, feared I would receive something so huge I would not be able to finish it. For me (a 5'4'' 115 pound female who loves grilled cheese) it was a good size although I ordered it without any sides. I liked the different flavors of the different types of cheese, blended together.
