We visited the Flintlock following recommendation form friends. They especially recommended the duck.
They were right to do so. We both had the slow roast duck, with boozy plums and thyme, accompanied by dauphnoise potatoes, red cabbage, mage tout, green beans, carrots and what I can best describe as a parsnip rosti. All absolutely superb, fantastically well cooked and delicious. Portions are generous - the duck was huge - so think carefully before you have that starter!
My partner had a fruit pie with custard and I had the lemon posset with a brandy snap. The pie received a favourable report, and my posset was great - really silky texture and delicate lemon taste.
Service was good, we had a little wait, but as the food is all home cooked, you expect that.
Surroundings very pleasant, an old timbered pub which was reasonably busy; but was not overly noisy. I think people were too busy tucking in to the delicious food.
Menu choices are displayed on blackboards around the wall. I have to say it all looks very good, so we will be back to work our way through the menu!
One slight criticism, there choice of wine by the glass is a bit limited, but that's a very minor point when put against the high standard of the food. Couldn't comment on beer or anything else as I never drink it!
It's a bit more pricey than our usual hang outs, but then again you are getting a good quality meal so it is worth it. When you consider what we had, it was good value.
I really recommend this place, that duck was one of the best I have ever had; if not THE best!

Friendly welcome, service and relaxing atmosphere where the Chefs create extraordinary dishes from locally sourced produce. The menu changes regularly and is extremely good value for money.
I swung by here for something I could grab and eat in the car, and managed to get a doorstep cheese and pickle Sandwich made from very soft and lovely gluten free fresh bread. I also had a gluten free Victoria sponge slice. Both were extremely tasty and not anywhere near the dry offerings I usually get. It's rare to get properly catered for in gluten free, let alone that quality.

The tea rooms can be found down Vine Passage which is a narrow walkway, look out for the sign for the Vine inn off the high street.
My wife and I stumbled across the Vine Inn and Tea Room whilst exploring little lanes and alleyways in Honiton. We stopped for a milkshake and ended up with a lovely ploughman's after seeing the food that other people were eating. While we were there the pub garden was full of couples and families. The staff were very friendly, the food was excellent and good value. We will certainly be back.

Looked pleasant from the outside. We visited for a late lunchtime snack on a Saturday. The place wasn't very busy but we waited a long time for service. Both staff on duty seemed pretty miserable. Now I think when you have a meal out, it's only right for a staff member to come and ask you, early on, if everything is ok. No-one did, and no-one did when I paid the bill either; and since we seemed of no interest to them, I didn't bother to tell them that our soup had been barely warm and our toasted Sandwich decidedly short on filling. Please no-one from the restaurant reply on here to say we should have raised it at the time...just read again what I've written above.

Excellent coffee and very good quality food. Would certainly recommend Toast and look forward to visiting again on our next trip to Honiton.

Boston Tea Party is a small family owned independent café group serving simple well-prepared food & drinks made with great ingredients, skill and love. Ethically sourced, affordable, feel-good & excellent quality - made from scratch onsite everyday by people who care about what they do. We like to think of BTP Honiton as our elegant English tearoom with the added buzz of an urban café – very much in keeping with the town itself & the lovely locals.
We had breakfast and it was excellent, service was fast and food delicious
It was a nice surprise and look forward to visiting again.

Tuesday is the weekly market day in Honiton with fruits, vegetables and cake stall.
We always pop into Zest for a quick breakfast on way to see friends or on market day have a freshly cooked lunch...especially today as it is very chilly outside...lovely coffee and cakes.

The cream teas are wonderful - just melt in your mouth. Also the GF cream tea is amazing - never tasted anything like it. Also the afternoon teas are magical too. Well worth a visit (or several visits).

Thursday evening 15th March and we were back here for dinner in this friendly Thai restaurant.
We ordered a young pepper corn stir fry with chicken and chicken Thai green curry and 2 portions of jasmine rice.
Our food was well presented but more importantly was absolutely delicious, we are never disappointed with the food here. We regard every visit as a treat.
