Based on the Texas Monthly rating (top 50 BBQ places), we stopped at Heavy's BBQ. It is a Mom &Pop type establishment with really good bbq and good prices. The brisket was flavorful and the sausage really good. The bbq sauce adds to the flavor without overwhelming it. I would come back again when I am out this way.

This place has a excellent location and does a good business. The food is good they have some very good people who work there. My biggest complaints are, they never participate it the advertised specials on TV. The prices seem to increase more than once per year. Cleaning the rest rooms a little more frequently would help.
This place could easily be a 4 or 5 but in the last 10 yrs has been stagnate.

From the time I walked in, till I paid the bill, I had beyond excellent service. The food was reasonably priced and it was delicious the drinks were cold and out meal came out fast. It was a bit loud in the bar area (made it difficult to hear each other) but overall excellent restaurant. It's a definite stop in HW 90.

When traveling we like to stop at local diner café and restaurants. We did so today at the Hondo Café and was delightfully treated to an old fashioned burger with homemade fries. My wife ordered Mexican food which she said was quite tasty. When going thru Hondo next month I look forward to having their breakfast for which I saw others eating at the table next to us.

This review is for the burgers (same location), honestly not sure if the bbq part is open anymore. We meet my mom here for a burger every time we're in town and are never disappointed. Friendly staff and great burgers, I hear the other items on the menu are great as well. I always get the giant heart attack burger which is a quadruple patty burger with bacon and cheese. Either way you go this is a much better place to go that any of the fast food joints.

Small town pizza restaurant trying to bring the freshest and best ingredients to our friends and family. "There are no strangers here, only friends you have not met yet" - Yates Piece.Pizza.Love.
My husband and dropped in tonight on our way home from San Antonio. The Margarita Pizza was to die for. Dough and sauce were amazing. The texture of the crust was perfect. I cheated and added Pepperoni to the pizza... really good pepperoni too. Very thinly sliced. Wish they were not 45 miles from my house.

We just wanted breakfast tacos before hunting. Medium size tacos (homemade flour tortilla)chorizo, egg and cheese/ sausage, egg, bean, cheese/ bean and cheese all were good. No complaints. Hot sauce average. If we wanted early morning tacos again we would go back.

Whataburger always seems like a safe place to eat on a long trip. This Whataburger follows the Whataburger theme of being very clean, friendly, and having great food that will fill you up. I always love their double Whataburger meal and a fried pie.

If you're looking for Mexican this ain't it. No spice no Mexican cheese bland is the best I can say. Like a New England version of Mexican cooking. If you are looking for that come her if not I'd look elsewhere.

Terrific seafood, very reasonably priced in a small town. You can see it from US 90 on the north side. The local folks love it and no wonder. Crispy catfish breaded and fried just right with fries and coleslaw for lunch was very generous and very tasty. The fried shrimp and oysters likewise. The "3 piece" catfish plate on the menu turned out to be four pieces since one was thought a little small. Go hungry!
You can watch the trains go by (quickly). The place was formerly in Castroville.
