Things to do in Merrylands
La Mono Charcoal Chicken and Lebanese cuisine in Merrylands is a casual, very friendly suburban restaurant. We go there because they have the most amazingly tender, juicy charcoal chicken and the vegetarian platter to rock your world. For $21, the platter consists of Hommus, Baba Ghannouj, Falafel, Vine Leaves, Cauliflower, Tahini Sauce, Tabouli, Cheese Sumbusik, Pickles & Lebanese Bread. The hommus and baba g. are some of the best I've ever tasted. They have a well rounded menu and genuinely care about their food. The atmosphere is a little lacking and a bit plain but offers an outside shaded area. If you want a tried and true local restaurant that delivers great lebanese food, not to mention good coffee, try La Mono. It won't disappoint.

Really great tasting burgers - I had the classic burger which had a special sauce & tasted great! They also serve a very interesting gaytime burger which is the first I've heard of such a thing - there's no doubt it's delicious. Nice looking place too with plenty of seating inside and outside. Best place to park would probably be at merrylands oval as spaces are very limited.

From the moment you smell the flavoured smoke from the massed shisha pipes at the entrance you know you're in for something special. The decor is all limestone with granite flooring, minimalist decor, (just a big, skeletal clock on one wall) it could be an inner city, high end restaurant, not a suburban pizza place. The staff are friendly and helpful, and aren't above flirting with the young girls hanging at the bar waiting for their orders. The food was fantastic, we've been there twice over the last few weeks, both times for the deserts, they have a traditional baked custard Knafee (I think) that is so sweet and smooth with just a thin crust of something crisp on top to provide contrast...one of the best deserts I've tasted anywhere. My daughter and her friends ordered two pizzas and a single serve of nachos to share, the pizzas were good, but the nachos were about the best I've had in Australia, layered with corn chips, meat sauce and cheese, topped with sour cream and guacamole and not just corn chips drowned in spaghetti sauce and cheese like most Aussie nachos. We will definitely be back soon to try their mezze.

ABOUT US We promise to offer you a unique flash back return to taste an authentic Middle Eastern food. Our restaurant managed by head chef Ali Snoubar who has an extensive long experience in Arabian cuisine. His kitchen journey started when he was 15 year
I visit different suburbs in Sydney trying out restaurants - stumbled upon Al Shami and had a delicious vegetarian meal ( a mixed platter of dips and falafel and another platter of eggplant and cauliflower) - it was extremely tasty and the staff were very friendly - I loved the garlic dip so much and asked if I could have a container to take away and I was given 3 containers and they wouldn't let me pay any extra - I highly recommend Al Shami

The Middle Feast restauraunt in Merrylands has been operating since 2012 and up until recently served lunch on weekends and dinner throughout the week. Recently they've started opening at 8am on weekends with a new breakfast menu and we were invited to sample it.Merrylands is deceptively simple to travel to especially if you are driving. It was about 20 minutes west from the city on the freeway - we loved that the freeway exit took us to the restaurant in five minutes with easy parking all around.Owner Zayd and his manager Marion warmly greeted us and seated us in the front of the restaurant - it's a large dining space which opens out to the kitchen, bar and grill. Inside there is an even larger dining space and private room. Designed for entertainment, they often have singers and dancers performing there. The new breakfast menu spans several pages and offers predominantly middle eastern breakfast dishes as you'd expect, though we did notice a muesli bowl ($12), acai bowl ($12) and a five egg omelette for you to customise ($18). We wanted the more traditional experience and opted for the middle eastern offerings - especially given a family recommended the breakfast platter to us - we queried them and they said it was delicious and their first visit there. The breakfast platter or "The Middle Feast Banquet" ($27 per person minimum 2 people) was a beautifully presented two-tiered platter including two sides of scrambled egg dishes. You receive scrambled eggs with sujuk (sausage), menemem (tomato and pepper scrambled eggs), sigara borek (Turkish cheese rolls), aged cheddar cheese, danish fetta cheese, mixed olives, fresh tomato, cucumber, strawberry jam, cream and honey, tahini and grape molasses, apricot jam, halawa (halva), fresh seasonal fruits, walnuts and oven baked bread topped with black and white sesame seeds, and Nutella French toast (as dessert) The banquet includes unlimited Turkish tea and owner Zayd assured us the kitchen would bake more complimnetary bread if desired (we had plenty but this is a very generous offer especially given the chef bakes the bread to order!)The banquet was delicious - fresh, tasty and it was obvious a lot of love went into plating this up. The presentation was superb. We also tried the Zaatar with Labne ($7). Three pieces of freshly baked mini bread with homemade Zaatar mix, served with cucumber, tomato wedges and labne. Very special and still warm from the oven.Next we tried the Sujuk and Egg Guvec ($18), an absolute meal in itself and perfect to share. Plenty of sauce to mop up with the homemade sesame bread served with the dish too. This dish consists of Turkish sausage (Sujuk) pan tossed with fresh tomato, lemon juice, Napoletana sauce, layered in a crock pot, with 2 eggs sunny side up topped with fetta cheese, all oven baked. The flavours and textures made this a delight to eat. Owner Zayd reminded us of their diverse range of fruit cocktails and gourmet shakes - we tried two: the avocado cocktail ($12) and halawa and pistachio shake ($11.50) Beautifully presented, with the avocado cocktail blended with fresh avocado and served with ashta (clotted cream), honey and fresh nuts. A healthier choice, and delicious. The halawa and pistachio shake was a sweet indulgence, topped with halawa fairy floss and pistachios, and drizzled with melted Belgian chocolate. You could skip dessert for this shake, it's very generously served, and delicious. We finished off with some Arabic Coffee (Kahwa) $6 for 3 people, $12 for 6 people - a very strong coffee with a hint of cardamon - served unsweeteended, some might prefer to add sugar. We tried it unsweetened and it made a nice contrast to the cocktails and shakes. Beautifully presented and generously proportioned.Overall, this is a breakfast worth travelling for. The restaurant space is superbly decorated in middle eastern art and the lighting is worth wandering around to look at - it's beautiful. Merrylands is a fascinating suburb worth spending more time in too - we are spoilt in this city with the diverse range of food on offer. Get out one weekend for breakfast and see for yourself.

One of Sydneyâs highest rated Lebanese restaurants, the El-Phoenician, garnered star-driven praises from The Sunday Telegraph proving it is a contemporary and stylistic showcase with a modernistic approach to an arrestingly innovative Middle-Eastern food
We had an impromptu mid week lunch here this week. We were both feeling pretty hungry and had a rare couple of hours free in the middle of a very busy work week. On Church st surrounded by many other restaurants the atmosphere is totally different when we walked in. The decor is very nice with soft Lebanese music playing in the background, it felt very welcoming. We were immediately shown to a larger table (it being a relatively quite time) and immediately decided to try a variety of mixed entrees plus a main dish. The two waiters were both highly professional and the head waiter gave excellent advice on wine by the glass to suit the different dishes. The food itself was mouth watering. I have eaten Lebanese food before but none that tasted this good. For my lunch partner it was his first time and he truly fell in love with it. This is definitely a restaurant worth trying and we will definitely be back.
