I believe this is the best bento box Iâve had in Japan. And my family will be sure to agree with me. Abashiri is quite remote and tourists come here just for the drift ice cruise. If you travel through the JR Abashiri, be sure to get your fill. My favourite was the rice covered in Abashiri scallops. There is a small taster/sampler box with a sample of every box they have. If they are out of stock; just wait 10 minutes. They will refresh the boxes shortly. We didnt know this. We bought some boxes that were not our first choice. Five minutes later, new ones arrived via the back kitchen. Prices were reasonable around yen1000.

A sushi restaurant with old-world charm. Choose to dine at the counter, sitting on over-stuffed leather chairs, or dine in the tatami rooms. Great sashimi and sushi. Friendly and attentive staff. No English spoken.

Stopped by for lunch with tour group. Seafood hot pot is OK. Hot pot has one crab, mainly for flavor as it didn't have much meat. Shrimp ball was the best. Misc fish and veggies were OK. Tour added whale sashimi but we didn't eat it. Others who did said it was more like rubber and resorted to cooking it in the hot pot. Overall OK for a quick meal. Nothing special.

After driving a distance from Mombetsu to Abashiri, Tsuki is a good place for a stop for lunch or so and the food is of good quality. There is a car park outside the restaurant so it's convenient for car travellers. The picture menu is user-friendly for tourists who don't know Japanese. The sushi is fresh and tasty. Besides sushi, other hot dishes are also quite good such as steak.
