Reviews on Cafe food in Hakodate, Hokkaido, Japan. Even if you can't be in Hakodate to see the cherry blossoms in May, you'll fall in love with the sunset views from Mount Hakodate. Surrounded by the ocean, it's no wonder Hakodate is known for fresh seafood. If you're up early, have domburi for breakfast at a restaurant in the Morning Market by Hakodate Station.

What a delightful surprise to find a British tea room in Northern Japan. As soon as I saw it advertised as being within the Old British Counsulate, I had to visit for high tea. The tea room with its old wood tables, two fireplaces, flowered china and little teapots reminded me of those that I have been to in England. The curtained windows look out on a rose garden on one side and the Tsugaru Straits in the distance on the other. My husband and I each ordered the afternoon tea set, which consists of small-sized items and a small pot of tea for 1500 Y. The food for the two sets came together on a tiered server. An order includes three sandwiches (mixture of ham, egg salad and cucumber), one scone, two cookies, one tart, one piece of cake and a cherry. Everything tasted good, but I thought the cake, filled with tiny dots of chocolate, was exceptional. We each also received a pot of tea, which yielded two and a half cups. At mid-afternoon, customers sat at only three other tables. Service proved to be perfect with everything set up beautifully in front of us. Our attentive waitress ensured that our water glasses remained full, which we especially appreciate when on the road.I think this tea room provides a lovely place to stop when exploring the Motomachi area with its late 19th-century Western-style architecture. A gift shop attached to the tea room sells a variety of British merchandise.

if you want good proper coffee... Please save your $$$ and do yourself a favour... Go to Starbucks... I paid 450yen for diluted milk coffee with no coffee taste...
This is a very pleasant cafe situated in a beautiful park that would catch all the seasonal changes. There are many cherry trees which must look spectacular in the Spring time. The cafe is run by by 2 older people who do an excellent job. The service, food and coffee are all excellent, the views into the park are very special. I recommend this cafe to anyone who cherishes old world feel and the simple, good things in life.

Found this place via a tourist info center recommendation in Hakodate. It was a bit hard to find walking without English language signage, but it was worth the trip. Situated not far from the Hakodate Warehouse district it's a pleasant find for great value meal. ¥2310 for beef goulash soup with sour cream, beef entrée with mushroom sauce and dessert and tea. Started off with a premium sake, that really hit the spot after trekking outside in snowy weather all day. The host saw I was tourist and used my camera to take photos. I did see local folks in the restaurant, it looks like it is a wedding hall as well. ,

Here you can enjoy excellent Japanese tea, or âochaâ in Japanese, in a nostalgic atmosphere created by the architectural style of the building which was once a quarantine office during the Meiji era, and now known as one of the few remaining structures in Japan dating back to the Meiji era in the Port of Hakodate.Enjoying the view of the ocean over a cup of ocha, combined with the atmosphere of the building was quite a peaceful and relaxing experience for me.As you enter the cafe the view of the ocean straight ahead down the hallway will literally catch your breath. The squeaking sounds the floor makes as you walk toward your table will remind you of the age of the building. These sensory stimuli caught by your eyes and ears will set a perfect stage for you to enjoy the taste and the scent of ocha you are about to encounter, inviting you to mobilize all your senses.First time to try ocha? Donât worry. A friendly waiter will serve ocha into your cup when your ocha has reached the optimum temperature. Although the second serving is for you to do yourself, they will explain how to do it to help you make the best ocha.I am sure you will all enjoy both the atmosphere and the taste of ocha.

A lot of fellow Taiwanese bloggers rave about Snaffle's, but I really did not share the same passion. We stopped by the location near JR Hakodate Station to pick up some mille-feuille crepe cake and strawberry short cake as well as a box of the famous cheesecake omelet. Upon returning to our hotel, we realized that the sales lady did not pack any utensils for us so we had to eat messy cakes with our hands (of all the bakeries that we visited in Japan on our many trips, Snaffle's was the ONLY one that did not pack utensils for take-out orders). As for the cheesecake omelet, let's just say that my husband and I each had a bite and then toss the box down the garbage. I preferred the double fromage at Le Tao at Otaru much, much more!

Housed in a historical old building, easy to locate. Lovely interior decor English menu available and owner (Hiroshi)can communicate in basic English, and even gave us more tips on where else to go in Hakodate. We ordered the matcha and sencha sets which were lovely. Cakes and pudding in the set were not too sweet, and very delicate. Must go :) Cosy place to chill out

We had just come from the Rokkatei in Sapporo and enjoyed that very much. Rokkatei Goryokakuten is just as good, the pastries equally delicate and even better, the coffee is provided free. There is a wide view of the park that makes a lovely hour to spend the afternoon. Don't hesitate to buy some sweets and delicacies for take away or friends. This cafe is just on the edge of the park further down from the ramen and drugstore which is across from the entrance of Goryokaku tower.
