It's our second visit to this one-star Michelin restaurant which serves up really good soba noodles.Hand made on the spot upon receiving our orders, the soba noodles tasted so fresh and succulent even on its own. Both hot and cold noodles are great, though they are known for their cold noodles. The set comes with home made tofu which is so smooth and soft, grilled miso with buckwheat seeds on a wooden spoon (heavenly), miso soup and potato starch slices. The freshly fried assorted tempura is a must-try, as with their duck slices. Worth the visit!

Stumbled across this place, in need of a lunch. Family-run business, little English spoken.Decent big bowls of miso-based ramen. The option for meat was really big! Two bowls of miso ramen, one bowl with meat, and a coke- Y2797. Quite expensive! But tastes great.
We visited Toya-ko in Hokkaido and looked for hot noodle dish for lunch as it was very cold. The staff at the hotel that we stayed recommended this Ramen shop. The shop is quite small but clean. The owner and his wife cannot speak English but was very nice and helpful. We ordered just 1 Pork Ramen bowl as my wife was still not so hungry. We found that the Ramen may be the largest bowl we ever tried in Japan. Both of us had to struggle to finish it. The taste was OK and very good for cold weather (1 C outside).

Visited as a couple for lunch while touring the Toyako area. We were told this one is a local favorite.. so decided to check it out. This restaurant is located relatively far down the Toya Shopping strip and about as far from the ship boarding area as you can get... which was sort of perfect for us to wrap up the walk. The town is not large, anyway. Upon entry we found it about half filled on a weekday with all locals. There are about 10 counter seats and a large number of tatami tables for families--typical of local ramen joints. The restaurant is most definitely family run--husband, wife, son were all working the rounds. The specialty of the restaurant is soy sauce based ramen which they have two type--"black" and "red". This is in addition to offering of other standard ramen--miso, shio, etc.. They also have a specialty condiment which is some sort of a "dough" which absorbs the soup. The broth here is also a little different from your typical Tokyo or Fukuoka shop in that it is relatively thinner and lighter--more like a stock--though salty nonetheless. Noodles are typical Hokkaido thicker type high in alkaline content. We ordered a black, a red, and a gyoza. I was a little amused to see the red is not actually red... just a term. But per the owners explanation (before I ordered), the "black" is characterized by extra intense soy sauce soup base, while the "red" has extra shio addition to the broth--not to denote colour of the soup. The ramen was quite simple but satisfying. We also ordered extra egg and chashu... the eggs were perfectly good, chashu is of the softer type, which I actually prefer. Gyoza filling was average but served lip smackingly crisp.Overall, pretty good bowl and we actually felt surprisingly good after the meal unlike some other ramen meals which often leave you lethargic or dehydrated an hour or two after eating. Given the lack of other great options in Toyako town... would recommend this for a quick and easy meal.

If you find yourself in Toyako Onsen, the town on the southwest shore of Lake Toya, don't miss this outstanding soba restaurant:The shop is one street back (away from the lake) from the main lakeside road, on a southwest corner. No English menu, no Englis
Its located just across from the Toya Onsen Bus Terminal. It was closed on 2 evenings but we were happy to find it open for an early lunch (11.15am) just before we had to leave. Simple, yummy food, especially nice on a rainy afternoon.
I visited this place with my wife and a couple of friends in early May of 2018. We were doing a roadtrip from Sapporo to Lake Toya, then back to Sapporo via Otaru. After some sightseeing in and around Lake Toya, we were ready for a meal, so I pulled up Google maps. We were pleasantly surprised to find that this place was coming up and had received some pretty decent reviews. It's literally just a building on the side of a mountain. From what I gathered speaking to the people who served us, many of the mushrooms/fungi that are served in their ramen are harvested in the mountains behind the restaurant. It doesn't get any fresher than that, and it's reflected in the quality and flavors of their food. I had the mushroom ramen with the miso broth, which I really enjoyed. Full disclosure, I love ramen, and whenever in Japan, I frequent places like Ichiran, Ippudo, small mom&pop stands as well as local yatai. One might say my ramen preferences are less than discriminatory, but I have had bad ramen in the past. This place was quite good. IMO clearly better than Ichiran and Ippudo. The location of this shop is both its blessing and curse. The fresh, local ingredients and diligent work of the owner/staff is what makes this place so special, however because it is off the beaten path, they probably get much less traffic than they deserve. If you are fortunate enough to be in the area and love ramen, I highly recommend it. They open at 11am and close once they've sold out of broth.
