Things to do in Shiraoi-cho
We choose the Jingisukan Pot for the most delicious results in the traditional Hokkaido manner. Enjoy the finest beef with or lamb seasoned with your personal favorite sauce.
Poor value, not so great environment, so-so quality.Went for lunch. They don't have a real lunch menu. The cheaper sets don't cost any less than items from the normal "grand" menu. Worse yet, those sets come with meat only and the shabu shabu or sukiyaki pot. You have to pay separately for rice, udon and even vegetables. We got one serving of udon for 200 Yen. It was tiny and all cut up with no real bite--pretty much industrial mass made udon you can buy at supermarkets. The main star, the meat, was just ok.Service was fine as it is in Japan after all. Environment was not so great either. Most seats were tight counter seats with a feel of a fast food restaurant. The ventilation wasn't great either. We walked out smelling like beef.Later in the trip, we had beef at Sapporo at much better value.

On the whole, we'd give our experience here 3.5 stars. We made the trip to the farm for lunch yesterday from Noboribetsu after reading about their cheeseburger in a blog. What we discovered was that the burgers are takeout only - you can eat your burger sitting at one of the bench and table settings just outside the takeaway section of the facility. As we wanted to dine in, we ordered the hamburg steak set lunch and the stewed beef brisket set lunch. Both were served with a very tasty non oily beef and vegetable clear soup. The hamburg steak which was served with a demiglace sauce was delicious. The beef brisket was extremely tender but the wine reduction sauce it was served with was too rich for me. You get a choice of rice or bread to go with your set meal. The restaurant does a brisk trade; there was a constant stream of mostly Japanese diners when we ate there. There is no English menu though there are several pictures in the menus that help you navigate well enough. Our two set meals cost us about JPY4000 (USD36).
Where to eat Barbecue food in Shiraoi-cho: The Best Restaurants and Bars

This BBQ house is located along the seaside road. With its own butcher shop right next door, this specialty restaurant offers different cuts of Wagyu. Decorated like a farm house with wooden roof and beams, it was atmospheric. However, it could get really smoky inside as the suction just wasn't strong enough. Quality Shiraoi Wagyu couldn't get better than this. Prepared in the simplest of ways, ie they provide the perfectly white hot charcoal and you BBQ it the way you like it. Best eaten with the Japanese steak sauce and mashed radish provided. It's definitely not cheap. A 200g steak set costed JPY 4270 while the 200g special cut set would set you back JPY 4750. A set included a bowl of Jap rice, a small cup of peppery beef soup with scallions and a tiny bowl of vegetable salad on top of the meat. This melt in your mouth Wagyu experience was certainly worth the 20 minutes detour from nearby onsen town Noboribetsu.

This farm house style restaurant grows their own wagyu beef. The beef is high quality with different grades. The restaurant uses high quality charcoal for grilling at the table. We ordered a mix of best quality and regular beef. Both are amazingly delicious! The beef has well marbled fat, soft and melts in the mouth. Overall, the restaurant serves excellent value and high quality beef. The home made soft ice-cream is not to be missed after the meal!
