Reviews on Soups food in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan. Probably best known for its eponymous beer, Sapporo—the capital of Hokkaido, Japan’s northernmost island—has maintained the youthful and open atmosphere of the 1972 Olympic Winter Games, drawing international visitors for its annual Snow Festival and its world-famous ramen. Those seeking out the full diversity of Japanese cuisine will want to visit: a city with a ramen-inspired theme park is one that embraces and pampers foodies.

Okushiba`s soup curry is one of the best in Sapporo. It`s quite busy but the food is worth the waiting time. Check supersillytraveller.com for a detailed review of Okushiba.

We were in Sapporo, so we had to try their specialty, the famous soup curry. This place is only a 5 min walk from the Sapporo JR station (and close to the Sapporo subway station too) and we came here for lunch while waiting for a train. As someone who is not afraid of a bit of spice and eats quite a bit of spicy food, I got the recommended spice level (3) with the chicken curry with coconut in it. We also got the level 2 spice level in another dish. If you don't eat a lot of spicy food, level 2 is probably too much! Level 3 was enough for my mouth to still be hot when we left the restaurant and to leave with a warm chilli tummy. I would recommend getting the coconut in the soup. It's so good!

This place has a queue at lunchtime. The menu is all curry-based dishes served with rice. I found their original flavored curry a littler on the uninspiring side but the serving size was ample.

There are dozens of restaurants in the JR Station area but this is one that has a reassuring line of customers patiently seated outside waiting for a table. The curry sauce comes in a variety of options (mild, medium, hot, super hot) with different sized rice portions for those adverse to carbs. And the taste? It is heavenly - complex, rich and yet light enough to finish it all. As for the ingredients in the curry - the tempura / beef burgers / prawns / veggies - they are cooked to perfection and generously portioned. This is a must try especially in the winter months. Comfort food at its best!

Ramen Made with Fresh Hokkaido Ingredients. Quality noodles are produced exclusively using wheat from Hokkaido. The noodles are made with an original blend of the Hokushin, Kita No Kaori and Yumechikara brands. The defining characteristic is its satisfyin
Arrived in Sapporo and did a little shopping but soon got hungry. Took a while to find and searching in the rain meant we almost gave up but glad we didnât.Vending machine ordering is very easy and all the ramen we ordered was delicious - msg in the soup (Â¥200 extra for no msg!) and lack of drinks was the only shortfall although youâre in and out quickly and there is always a 7-eleven or FamilyMart nearby to buy a drink. As we left there was quite a queue (and none for any of the other restaurants) so very popular too.

We headed to this restaurant 10 minutes before opening hours and were part of a group of about 15-20 people lined outside. Once they opened, they usher you into a waiting area inside which was nice since it was really chilly outside. It was a weekday so it was fairly quick to get everyone seated. They tend to seat everyone in batches, i think so that they can prepare the food in the kitchen better. We were given a table after 15 minutes and were able to order immediately since we had browsed the menu while waiting. The food does take a while to be brought out but it was all worth it.The vegetables are fresh and crisp and perfectly cooked. The servings are quite large (especially their special) and very filling. I like their curry soup. We all got a level 3 and it was the perfect spice level for us. The crispy chicken and the broccoli was great. I ordered the bacon and cheese curry soup and loved it. There are extra toppings you can order but was not listed in the english menu. Ask the waiters to translate if you want anything extra. We also ordered lassi. That was just so so. Overall a good meal that warmed us up for the winter cold outside. The stairs are steep and there didn't seem to be any wheelchair access for anyone with mobility issues. There's a bar-type eating area for those who might come solo. You will get a table faster if you are in a small group or alone.

A great flavoursome rendition of the local specialty âSoup Curryâ. Unfortunately, the staff were inattentive and the service was slow compared to typical lunch service in Japan. The food took a very long time to be served and this was late in the afternoon, not during a busy time. The staff were not polite or repeat our order for confirmation. When we arrived to the restaurant a child was playing with the door so we were unable to open the locked door. Neither the parents or staff noticed that we were locked out.The menu is very complicated and it would be difficult to order without someone with strong Japanese language skills with you. It is great value with large portions so you donât need to order the largest size. Those shown are the âbasicâ meals. The soup is very spicy, itâs called âout of your mindâ spicy for a reason. Even at âlevel 2â so donât go crazy and order a higher spice level unless youâve had curry in Japan before and you know what youâre getting into.

Just delicious ramen, with a very friendly owner. This place is located in Ramen Alley without an English menu, however the owner speaks enough English for you to order (using the vending machine) and the ramen, with meat cooked over coals, is more authentic for it.

Soup Curry â heavy, saucy and comforting â is one of Japanâs most underrated dishes.Start by choosing the type of curry base you wantâ¦here choose your kind of curry from Crispy âShiretokoâ Chicken & vegetables â chicken (boneless), potato, carrot, eggplant, pumpkin, boiled egg, maitake mushroom, green pepper or Braised âFuranoâ pork kakuni â braised pork belly, potato, carrot, eggplant, pumpkin, young corn boiled egg. The broth is soupier than traditional Japanese curry. Then, select your desired spice level. Chicken-me chose the mild version. Next, choose the amount of rice you want and request any additional toppings. Most locals scoop rice onto their spoon and dip it into the curry, but you wonât be kicked out if you ladle the soup curry over your rice insteadâ¦like us.Itâs a spectacle of color that tastes as good as it looks. This is the true truth as I say it as it isâ¦

I have eaten sooo many ramen, but the ramen here are the best in Japan! They are incredibly tasty. We have eaten several variations of ramen in this restaurant, but the cheese ramen (have really a lot of good cheese and deserve this name) and tomato ramen (vegetarian option) are our favourites. The cook is very helpful and kind. He assisted us very professional to find the perfect choice. And the food came very fast.We will be back
