Akkeshi is famous for its oysters. This eatery is located at the Akkeshi Gourmet Park, a highway rest point. We stopped here when we drove from Nemuro towards Obihiro. This restaurant offered pairing of fresh Akkeshi oysters with Akkeshi whiskey. There were also other cooked food options and other "oyster" alcohol.

On the outside this place looks touristy, and we didn't have high hopes for it. But it was fantastic. Firstly it was easy to find, and had a nice big carpark. The views of the area were wonderful. We arrived for a late lunch, about 3pm, and it was very quiet.It was a great opportunity to try the local oysters. They were very fresh and cooked in a wide array of different styles. I had a bento box with oysters prepared in five different ways. My husband had 'fish and chips' - which came with crumbed a fried oysters. Everything was delicious!

A must go place for oyster lover. The oysters here are fresh from the Akkeshi lake, cheap and DELICIOUS! After we chose the oysters we wanted, we had to open them ourselves with the guidance of the friendly staff.. oyster tasted so much better when opened by ourselves. We could taste the sea.. love the crunch as we bite on the plump oysters.. yumm... We also tried Sea urchin and some scallops cooked with the microwave oven. The staff recommended sashimi top shell which was also super delicious. This place is actually a whole sale market but provided anything you need to enjoy the fresh seafood caught from Lake Akkeshi there such as disposable utensils and plates, sauce and wasabi, instant noodle and rice (for a price) and etc. We miss the oyster here.
