Limited options in Ashibetsu but this was freshly made and very affordable food. Mostly curry based with not many non-meat options but was ok. Get there early though as kitchen shut at 7.30pm.

On the second floor of the âMichi-no-Ekiâ or the Roadside Station Star Plaza in the city of Ashibetsu is a small restaurant called La Fleur. The name indicated something very Western or French, but it turned out to be just one of those local restaurants with rice and noodle dishes. That was quite fine with us as we were very hungry. We ordered what they call âGatatanâ dishes. They are basically noodle or rice dishes topped with ten kinds or so of vegetables, seafoods, pork in starch-laden soup. They were hot and surprisingly delicious. The menu said someone who was in Manchuria before the end of WW II brought these dishes to Ashibetsu and they became very popular as âGatatanâ or soup with many ingredients.
