The restaurant is located in Takahatafudo between the station and the temple. The cooks are a Japanese and some south asians. The taste is very good. It is very south Asian but somehow unique taste
I recommend tandoori meat and curry. Recently I had their homemade ginger ale and chicken pickles. They were amazing I had never had something like them. The price is reasonable. You can stop at the restaurant if you go to the temple. it is on Keio line the same railway line as going to Takao mountain. You can also stop at Takahatafudo station if you have time on the way from Takao. This restaurant is highly evaluated by Japanese people.

What a treat in a small family owned restaurant near the Tachikawa station They offer only goyza such as (squid, asari-clam, pork, vegetable, potato, corn, green-onion), (shrimp, shiitake-mushroom, leek, garlic), (cheese, octopus, crab, scallop all are priced at about 1000 yen ($10). Try them with a pitcher of beer

This restaurant is inside Granduo department store. Their mabodofu is extremely spicy. If you eat it at the restaurant, they serve soup, pickles, and all-you-can-eat rice with your mabodofu. The mabodofu is pretty voluminous, therefore I buy it to go (which doesn't include the rice, soup, and pickles but is cheaper) and eat it at home.

Tofuya-Ukai-Owada, 2-18-10 Owada Chou, Hachioji is one of the 10 or so Ukai restaurants in the Tokyo area. Each is fairly unique in its menu, setting and architecture. Because the principal dish served here is tofu (bean curd) in many of its different modes the cost of food is relatively low for the restaurant and the price for customers is quite reasonable for what you get. 3,680 buys the standard meal which is excellent and the top menu item is about 6,800 yen.
The setting is charming, a new building but strongly influenced by traditional Japanese architecture and style. The food is excellent and the service equally good. You can look it up on their web site ukai.co.jp/English/index.html. I strongly recommend Reservations, my wife books for us but I would think they can handle a booking in English, just take your time and be patient.
While you can drive there, the directions are a bit complex and I would recommend taking a taxi from Hachioji Station either the Keio or Chuo Line station, about 1,800 yen as I recall.
I have also eaten at two other Ukai restaurants in Takao, Ukai Toriyama and Ukai Chikutei which are substantially more expensive, but with an even more impressive setting. My firm recommendation for an introduction to fine, but reasonably priced traditional Japanese cusine is their Tofuya in Owada Chou.

We had a really nice evening in this quiet restaurant on the 3rd floor of the Kimura building. It's not super easy to find. There's a small green sign that says Watanabe in hiragana by the entrance.
The food is fresh tempura, though sashimi is also available. It is prepared and presented in front of you. You can let the chef just pick a few things and you can also indicate dietary preferences or restrictions. The presentation is as amazing as the taste of the food.
Go with a few friends to enjoy the evening together.

I was invited to this Kaiten Sushi by a Japanese friend who lives nearby.
We ate a lot of plates, all of them were excellent, the fish looked and tasted very fresh,
and many delicious new kinds of sushi. Unfortunately the location is not easily reachable from a foreign tourist with no car, but I see there is also a Hamazushi restaurant in Central Tokyo. If it is like this one, I recommend it to anyone visiting Tokyo.
