One of the best preserved and most architecturally demonstrative, Himeji's 400-year-old castle is so exquisite that it alone is worth a trip to the city. The castle is close to the train station, so it makes an ideal short stop on a day trip to several sights.

This was a great little find if you're after something quick, warm and hearty. The menu is in Japanese and you'll need to buy a food ticket from the vending machine before sitting down. For the noodles, they have a large option (omori) if you are feeling quite peckish.
This place is famous for their tempura soba/udon that they even have a take home pack which you can make for yourself at home. For 3 serves it would set you back 1000 yen.

Ordered the udon after a long tour at Himeiji Castle. Happy to fill the stomach. Restaurant is not far from the Castle.

I found out about this restaurant via Tripadvisor as me and my partner fancied a Chinese meal before our journey back to Tokyo.
The type of service we experience was friendly and welcoming, as we were greeted when we arrived and thanked for when we left after our meal. I would give a particular member of staff there 5 stars for going out of his way to actually catch us up outside to ask if we needed help with any directions which we happily accepted.
The overall price of the meal was very, very cheap. Totalling just over 2,000 yen for five dishes was fantastic. However, the choice of dishes were very limited and would have liked a bit more of a variety. I was most looking forward to the dimsum I thought they would have, but didn't which was disappointing. Also, there were no napkins at the table which was unusual and so I asked the waitress for some because I thought they'd forgotten to lay them. The waitress then came back with a pack of 100yen tissues which was ridiculous... not to be fussy but napkins at a restaurant? Quite odd.
So, it was an okay meal. The restaurant could do a lot better in some aspects.

We were lucky to get seats at the bar in this busy Japanese "pub". We chose a variety of dishes from the English menu, deep fried cheese, fried chicken and stuffed pancakes amongst others. Staff speak limited English, but we managed to eat well, drink well and had lots of fun watching people coming and going and the food being cooked behind the bar. The locals were very friendly, quiet while eating but they soon started chatting once their food was eaten!

Bakery Lamp is a famous bakery located close to Himeji Castle, along the main road leading to the Sanyo Himeji Station. As past reviewers have already mentioned, the bakery is located off the main road along one of the side streets, do look out for the signs that will point you in the right direction. The bakery has a very small but cozy interior and atmosphere, embellished with wood furnishings. You can either order their burgers, or if you are short on time or looking for something cheaper, you can select from a wide range of pastries/bakes they have on display. We ordered their burgers and hotdog, which I must admit, took a bit of time to arrive, but taste-wise it was really good and definitely worth the wait! Helps that prices are generally quite affordable too.

Found this top rated place while going to Himeji Castle. Located at the basement food court across the train station. Queued up to buy a ticket and another line to collect food. Got the tako ball and savoury pancake. It is quite average in taste but an adventure to try as this is really a local joint

Sushi-ichi is SUSHI and SAKE and TATAMI-ROOM. There is a traditional sushi and Himeji sake. It is Himeji of sushi different is flavored with the Tokyo and Kyoto. Cash (yen) or payment by credit card is possible. A 15-minute walk from Himeji Castle or Himeji Station.
The first time I have had such a poor experience. The restaurant was empty and We felt as if they were trying to extract every last yen from us. For two of us it may not seem a lot but paying over 7000Yen for extremely average food. We have had much better sushi even in the Mountains of Hakuba. The food presentation was very average and a local izakaya could do a better job.
They charged us 400yen for water and 1200 for one bottle of beer. On top of that the tax.
We felt extremely robbed and would never recommend this place to anyone.
The positive - a nice private room to ourselves.
They gave us a postcard of Himeji Castle.
I don't mind paying good money so long as there is value but this was one of those extremely unfortunate experiences where I relied on TripAdvisor and Google.
Would seriously think twice before eating here!
