Skyline Lodge

More organic than ornate, and a bit more Fitzgerald than flapper, The Skyline Lodge offers an authentic mountain retreat with the comforts and creative surroundings of an historical destination. Hidden upon Flat Top Mountain of Highlands, N.C., the inspiration for this mountain-top lodge ranges from the nature-based architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright to mid-century modern. Cathedral ceilings, locally quarried granite block, custom-crafted and sustainably sourced furniture, and raw materials surround guests while they enjoy abundant access to the outdoors, fresh spring water from the neighboring Flat Rock Mountain and the serene sounds of babbling brooks. We are not completely off the grid though – guests may check themselves in with a downloadable key and a smartphone. Or for a more communal experience, an in-person check-in at our lobby coffee and retail shop could very well result in a welcome beverage and seasonal snack upon arrival. The Skyline Lodge is also home to the celebrated Oak Highlands Steakhouse and Butler’s Bar, both apt retreats for memorable experiences at the beginning or finale of your next mountain adventure. Guest Room Features: • Complimentary high-speed wireless internet • 44-inch flat-panel televisions • In-room safe • In-room coffee and tea • Custom-crafted, all-foam mattresses made in the Carolinas • Most rooms have a private balcony terrace or patio terrace Guest Bath Features: • Marble vanities • Heated Floors • Mosaic floor tile by Ann Sacks • Classic, mid-century era style fixtures

Low key, rustic, chic getaway

Reviewed By Valorie A

We loved our stay at Skyline Lodge. It is an understated place with a cool vibe. We liked the quiet courtyard with seating to sip wine, read a book, or just chill after a hike. The quietly playing jazz music was relaxing and pleasant. The rooms were smartly laid out, good use of space. Nice balcony with views. Bed was very comfortable, firm mattress. Small but, nice bathroom. Loved the heated tile floors. The welcome coffee at check-in was a nice touch. The Oak Steakhouse was a fabulous place for cocktails and dinner. Dinner was outstanding! The proximity to Highlands is nice - can go in for shopping and meals. Highlands is a very upscale mountain town and worth a visit. Also, hiking in the area is superb. This makes a wonderful homebase to explore the area.

Dog Friendly Home Away From Home

We are so happy to have found this lovely hotel! As dog trainers who were not coming with dogs we weren't quite sure if we were going to have barking dogs waking us in the morning. We deal with that at home and wanted to get a good night sleep while on vacation. We are so glad we took a leap of faith! No barking dogs! There was only one time during the day that someone left a very unhappy dog alone apparently but they came back quickly and it was never an issue again. This place has huge rooms, black out drapes for sleeping, suites with comfy beds and outdoor balcony with French doors. They have a dog bed and dishes waiting for your dog if you bring one. Such a lovely place! We had to split our time with another more expensive location and wish we could have just stayed at the The Park On Main. It was more our speed!

Location is good , and room sizes are a nice size that’s about the best I can say about this hotel, I think we were the only people staying at the hotel When we arrived at 2pm they looked at us in shock that we would dare to arrive before the 4pm checkin , so not very welcoming we planned to stay 3 nights we stayed 1 night and checked out , it’s an old running down hotel, when we got back from dinner no one was on the front desk just a notice that someone would be back on duty at 7.30am , don’t bother to stay here their are far better places to stay nearby

So Peaceful and Relaxing

Reviewed By 394ericbtuck

Just an amazing stay at Fire Mountain for our anniversary. This time we stayed at the Inn and like the cabins, it was immaculate, so comfortable and had all the amenities we needed. The grounds are so well taken care of with sitting areas and trails that really take advantage of the beautiful surrounding views. We had a delicious breakfast each morning in the dining area - such a serene setting. Owners care for every detail and were so helpful in helping us plan hikes, see waterfalls, visit local towns...etc. My wife and I agree that Fire Mountain is one of the most peaceful and relaxing places we've ever been to. See you folks again soon!

Lovely room and overnight stay!

We enjoyed The Petite room for one night! Very clean and comfortable in a great location near downtown. We felt very safe and I'm confident that this boutique hotel is perfect for anyone during a short stay (like us) or an extended one. Could not have asked for a better room!
