Polish Village Cafe is located at 2990 Yemans in Hamtramck, MI. Located in the basement of an old rathskeller. Dine in. Hang at the bar. Host your party. Catering. Parties over 8 call to reserve a spot.
We moved to this restaurant as the Eagles was too crowded for our group. The food was good and the friendly service was quick to deliver our lunch.

This is a family owned and operated Coney Island since 1921. Come check out us for a simple menu and fun service!
Every argument over the best coney island hotdog in metro Detroit always includes American, Lafayette, and usually Duley's. Another one that always seems to come up is Red Hots. I grew up in Detroit and lived in the metro area for 42 years before moving to North Carolina 16 years ago. I had never even heard of Red Hots, but I kept seeing it mentioned in the same way as the others that I really like, so I made a mental note to stop in on my next Detroit visit.
Today was the day. I went in at lunch time and ordered two coneys, fries and a coke. I'll tell you right now that these coneys are the equal to anything in Metro Detroit, including the classic places I already mentioned. And for me, that's not even the best part.
The best part is the history and character of this restaurant. First opened in 1921, it sat about a block away from Henry Ford's Model T plant, guaranteeing a thriving lunch business. The restaurant has been run by the same family since day 1.
The owners are talkative and friendly, and they seem to know most of their customers on a first name basis. The place is clean, and oozes character.
If you aren't familiar with this area, be forewarned. Highland Park is an old, poor suburb, surrounded entirely by the city of Detroit. I like places like this. I grew up in Detroit and feel comfortable exploring areas like this. I'm always aware of my surroundings, but in this case I never felt remotely unsafe. If you are the type of person who would never go downtown, even in the daytime, you may want to eat someplace else. As for me, I'll be back, and next time I'll bring my wife along.

Tim Hortons do the best coffee in all of North America and their Tim Bits are just amazing. I can't wait to go back for more.

I met a friend here for dinner, neither of us had been here before. I've heard they maple glazed donuts were a specialty from my coworkers. I had the cuban sandwich which was good but not the best I've ever had. The stuffed deep fried mushrooms were pretty tasty and the donuts were out of this world good. They had a huge selection of craft beers. I had the cherry sour which was quite pricy but smooth and exactly what I wanted. Its a good atmosphere and we had good service. I can't wait to come back.

In what was formerly called the 'Workman's Cooperative', today's Polonia Restaurant is hardly a well-kept secret (filled most nights with eager pierogi patrons and kielbasa fanatics) and the price points, under $10, makes it a huge Hamtramck draw. The original premise of the restaurant, formed in 1927, was to offer familiar Polish dishes to immigrants making the transition to a new country. Now, it serves equally well as a place for non-Poles to discover the best of traditional recipes, all from a spotless kitchen. As a cooperative, it no longer exists, but the spirit of good pricing, good neighbor jawboning and down-to-earth service still imbues the place, and countless leaders in the local business community can be seen in the comfortable booths and tables, enjoying meals beneath the detailed murals depicting Polish country life. Stuffed cabbage, kielbasa with sauerkraut, and pierogis are all homemade (including the sausage), and to be had at the reasonable prices that are part of the Hamtramck vibe. If you are brave enough, try the czarnina (duck soup), which is loaded with dried fruit and makes for a truly authentic flavor experience.
My wife and I stopped in for lunch on a Tuesday. We were quickly greeted and seated, very good. We both ordered the Polish combination plate, and it was very good. The Pierogi were very fresh and delightful. Good Sauerkraut,
Golabki was tasty, but a small portion. Mashed potatoes were superb. The Kielbasa was the star.
Priced reasonable, decent service, great food. What Polonia needs is a little Moe ambiance, and it would rate a 5 star.

I've been to Anita's twice and both times the food was excellent. Some of the best hummus I've ever had, very good stuffed grape leaves and excellent Shish Kabob. I think it would be safe to recommend just about anything from Anita's kitchen. The items in the dessert case looked scrumptious as well but I've not had the opportunity to try any yet. I say yes because I will most definitely be going back to Anita's. The service wasn't great the first time, but the 2nd visit we had great service. The food is on point.

I was visiting Detroit on business and my coworkers took me out here for dinner on a Friday night. We arrived around 7:30 and it was quite busy. There were 9 of us so we ended up waiting on a table for at least 45 minutes. Once seated, the service was great! We ordered 3 large pizzas (cheese, pepperoni and the special) and gobbled it all down. The crust was really thin (just the way I like it) and had great flavor. The pizza also didn't have a lot of sauce on it either, which is also great in my opinion. They also offer a limited beer and wine selection. This is hands down some of the best pizza I've had in my life. If I lived in Detroit, I'd come frequently!

The decor is perfect- wood tables, vibrant green walls and good paintings. Very friendly, excellent staff. Our cocktails were delicious- Orange Fedora, which consisted of bourbon and fresh orange and lemon juice.
The meals were great as well. Our group had braised short ribs, seared scallops, and the pheasant entree. Beautiful presentation, very good food.

Went into New Palace for the first time and I was wow-ed! Great selection of rolls, breads, cakes and cookies. Definitely made the bakery look festive with Christmas cakes, cookies and breads. Prices can be pricey but well worth this European bakery! They serve paczkis all year long with a wide range of flavors! If you're in the area, check it out!
