Reviews on Italian food in Wetzlar, Hesse, Germany. Wetzlar is a city located in the state of Hesse, Germany. It is a former free imperial city that owed much of its fame to being the seat of the Imperial Supreme Court (Reichskammergericht) of the Holy Roman Empire. Located at 8° 30′ E, 50° 34′ N, Wetzlar straddles the river Lahn and is on the German Timber-Frame Road which passes mile upon mile of half-timbered houses. Historically, the city has acted as the hub of the Lahn-Dill-Kreis on the north edge of the Taunus. The city is known for its ancient town and its medieval cathedral.

Don't expect a full fledged restaurant, although food is served, and it is good. Go for the wine, the relaxation, and a light (I recommend the mixed appetizers plate) snack to go with the wine. Nice slection of wines. Seating is limited so that the atmosphere is not spoilt even when full.

The day before, passing by and looking at the café then full of visitors I noted that this place is clearly popular. Not surprisingly, the terrace offers a superb view of the square in front of the Cathedral. It was logical to come here in the morning - for breakfast, when there are only few guests. The cafe opens at 9 am. The menu offers several breakfast options at prices ranging from 5 to 9 euros. I took the "Nordic" for 8 euros (scrambled eggs with smoked salmon), and beyond that another German Camembert for 2 euros. I was lucky â while I had breakfast, the rain had not yet begun.

I found the food very good, I had the pork roast potatoes with salad. Before the main course we were provided with a pizza taster. We sat outside on a warm night and then had coffee and after dinner drinks in the court yard which was very atmospheric. Perhaps not the cheapest place in Wetzlar to eat I would certainly return when I am in the area again.

Il Sapore sells delicacies and one can have a coffee at the shop. They also have a selection of about four meals which are more than excellent. A three star restaurant would find it hard to beat the quality offered. Seating is simple, your order your meal at the counter, but the main aspect (the meal) makes this a worth a visit.

Absolutely marvelous. An Italian restaurant run by Italian's (!!) in the middle of Wetzlar. Authentic dishes made with quality ingredients by a chef that obviously takes pride in his cooking. Happy, friendly service provides the Icing on the cake. Also very reasonable prices.

The restaurant has a superb location, overlooking the cathedral square. Service was excellent, friendly and quick - which can not always be taken for granted in a tourist spot. The price was reasonable.

Sometimes you manage to find a restaurant or a hotel where the personnell exceeds all your expectations, and just without even trying to do so. Bootshaus is such a place. The fact that the owner is not a German might have something to do with it... There was a huge group of us, over twenty in total, mostly teenagers with everyone having a different dish every evening (we ate there several evenings in a row), paying it separately and not once did their smile fade. They really did all possible to make us feel as welcome as possible. Well, the food there was really good too - and that might also be because the owner was not German... Excellent fish, good pizza and nice variety of pasta that even a vegetarian had several opportunities to choose. So, should you ever happen to spend a day in Wetzlar, do not miss this place!
