Things to do in Mililani
We had a late lunch with friends at Sakura on a Sunday afternoon. It was the first visit for six out of seven of us. The general consensus was that the food was very good as well as the service. (It wasn't very crowded at 1:30 in the afternoon). We would not hesitate to make a return visit. The restaurant is divided into two sections - the hibachi (teppan yaki) section and the dining room section. We sat in the dining room section and ordered off the regular menu. The restaurant was clean, but just a little dark.We wanted to order their lunch bentos, but unfortunately, they're not offered on Sundays. If we wanted bentos, we had to order dinner bentos, which cost more and were probably larger. I ordered the Teri chicken/spicy tuna sushi/harumaki (spring rolls) bento which also included a salad and more rice. The portions were generous. The teri chicken was flavorful, but the sushi was disappointing. The bento was preceded by miso soup which was good.Others in our party ordered the shrimp tempura/sashimi bento; vegetable tempura; shrimp & vegetable tempura combo; chicken katsu; and a couple of tofu dishes. Only one person didn't care for her vegetable tempura. The shrimp & vegetable tempura dish featured a fan made from fried somen noodles. Very creative and beautiful presentation. If you're not familiar with Mililani, the restaurant may be difficult to find. It's located in the Mililani Market Place shopping center with lots of parking.

This was the place to go... Everyone knows about Dot's in Wahiawa. Their catering for all kinds of parties and events is still a fan favorite. The restaurant on the other hand has not changed that much. Their mainstay specialty was the miso-butterfish entree. The atmosphere is dark and outdated. They need to renovate, and revitalize their menu. It's old and fairly unchanged. The service is quite average as well as the food...

We visited for an early dinner. We weren't that familiar with sushi dishes but the unagi bento was really good. The service was friendly and really quick. It wasn't very filling, so I'd go somewhere else if you're really hungry. But overall it was really good and not too expensive. We'll probably return to try different dishes.
We received a mailing introducing us to this new restaurant in our community. We brought our two granddaughters along and we all enjoyed the food there. You choose a broth, they have several to choose from, then choose meats, noodles and finally choose add ons like veggies, fish cake, etc. from a conveyor belt (like a self serve sushi restaurant). There is a self serve counter for dipping sauce selection (sesame seed, miso, pepper, shoyu, etc). Each seat has a little cooking plate where you heat up the broth. When heated you add the meats and veggies, etc that you have chosen and finally add the noodles. Like I said before, we all enjoyed the food. We were lucky to have been served by the assistant manager who walked us through everything. Great service, good food!

Chinese owners? I like daiichi ramen the best of of these Chinese run Japanese ramen restaurants. The food portions make you feel like you are getting a good deal. I can't help but to compare ramen ya, here and daichi...just think the tantan and other nontraditional (tonkotsu) ramen are better at daichi

On a drive from Waikiki to North Shore last week, we stopped to explore the neighborhoods of Mililani and found Nagoya Ramen & Bakery tucked inside a strip mall. Their baked goods looked wonderful, but we were hankering for an authentic Ramen set for lunch and they did not dissapoint. The chicken Katsu and pork Gyoza were both excellent. The shoyu stock was flavorful, ramen noodles al dente. The ramen toppings were average: A hard boiled egg instead of soft and the sliced pork was okay. All in all, an excellent food adventure and it was nice to get away from the crowds in Waikiki and experience a local's favorite. The prices were very cheap. We treated ourselves afterward to a shaved ice two stores down.
