My husband and I honeymooned to Maui. I found Bistro Manila online and at first glance, I saw bistro lights and it looked like a nice romantic place. We we arrived, it was not what I had imagined, and was disappointed. Until the owner and a sweet woman greeted us. I realized that Bistro Manila it is a diamond in the rough in Maui. Things on the menu didn't really jump out at me, but we ordered and it was delicious! We went back a second time. We would go back time and time again!

Hubby and I decided to try this place before a movie. Being born and raised in Hawaii, and being part Filipino, I suppose my expectations for Filipino food was quite high and well, I was a little disappointed. We started off with the appetizer platter with the shanghai lumpia, calamari and something else that was fried; the shanghai lumpia was really good. My favorite noodle dish is the Pancit Bihon so I got that along with a special soup they had for the night which consisted of fried pork belly with shrimp and veggies. Hubby got the Chicken Adobo and Crab Fried Rice. Well, I understand that a lot of the noodle dishes have cabbage in it but it was a little excessive in the Pancit Bihon aside from that, it was good. The soup was ok, but they could've cut the pork smaller rather than having huge chunks of it in the soup. Didn't really care for the Crab Fried Rice, it lacked flavor and it seems that something was missing. The Chicken Adobo almost tasted like Shoyu Chicken; there wasn't any taste of vinegar or peppercorn. So all this being said, I figured this was just a different 'style' of Filipino cooking which I am not accustomed to, nor have I ever had anything like it. Needless to say, we won't be going back there anytime soon and I'll stick to my own style of cooking Filipino food.
Paradise Supermart offers the best Filipino food on the island. Basically go through the line and choose what you want. You can eat in or take it out. Servings are huge! Prices are reasonable. You can also get the best halo halo on the island here.
